PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alvaro Ibanez Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carter Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Alvaro Ibanez Santos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Carter Jackson!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, William Gold and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santos is looking to clinch but Jackson is avoiding it.
A telegraphed right hand from Santos misses the target.
Jackson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Santos's waist but Santos gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jackson off to one side.

Santos shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Jackson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Santos manages to get himself to full guard.
Jackson throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Santos might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Santos had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Jackson is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Santos Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Jackson's back instead.
You can see the frustration on Jackson's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Jackson is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Santos gets his way!

Santos is persistently looking for the submission but Jackson is defending it well.

Jackson breaks Santos's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Santos escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jackson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Jackson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Santos counters with a nice double leg into guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jackson is on top in guard.
Jackson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Santos swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Santos has his foot on Jackson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jackson works his way back into a safe position though.

Santos manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jackson manages to get himself to full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Jackson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Santos sprawls well initially but Jackson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Jackson seems to be looking for submissions.
Jackson wants to take a breather but Santos is having none of it.
Santos is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Jackson drops an elbow to the side of Santos's head.
Jackson works his foot free and advances to mount.
Jackson is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Santos can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Jackson manages to work his way to half guard, despite Santos's best efforts.
Jackson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Santos is working away from the top position though.

Jackson bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Santos has instead reached around Jackson's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Santos arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
