Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ivan Watson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jack Knight! The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Ron Honeybunn and Francis DeMontford.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Watson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Knight has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Watson off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Knight tries for a takedown but Watson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Watson changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Watson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Knight to the mat! Knight manages to get full guard. Knight wants to sweep here but Watson controlling him for the moment. Knight is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Watson is aware though and is defending well. Watson lands a nice knee to the body. Knight trying to control the position but instead, Watson has worked for underhooks and has pushed Knight into the cage. Watson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Knight tries to circle away but Watson has him pinned against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Watson using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Knight has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Watson tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Knight smiles and moves away.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Knight is defended easily by Watson. Knight gets in close and instigates a clinch. Watson unloads a knee to the mid-section. Knight lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh. Knight is looking to break free of the clinch but Watson has double underhooks.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Watson jumps guard.
Knight's corner is telling him to maintain position. Knight trying to control the position from guard on top but Watson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Knight controlling from the top position. Let's hope that Knight has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Knight stops Watson from standing up. Watson tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Knight shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Watson but Watson pushes him off and we're back to square one. Ivan Watson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Knight. Knight misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Watson stuffs the takedown attempt from Knight. Knight gets slowly back to his feet. Watson throws a quick counter head kick but Knight was just out of range. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Ivan Watson will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Knight takes the fight into the clinch. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Knight struggles to land a body shot inside as Watson controls his hands.

Watson pulls guard. Watson keeping moving, preventing Knight from controlling successfully. Watson wants to sweep here but Knight controlling him for the moment. Knight looking to sit in guard and control but Watson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Knight doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Watson wants to get up but he can't break Knight's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Knight pushes Watson off and gets back to his feet.
A head kick by Knight misses and Watson counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Watson. Knight is working for takedown but Watson is calmly controlling the position for now. Knight escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Watson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Knight is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Jack Knight has got the better of the ground game so far. Knight wants to get back to his feet but Watson is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Knight working a defensive guard but Watson passes into half guard.
Watson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Ivan Watson dominated that second round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!
Knight shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Watson as he jumps to the side. Watson wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. Knight throws a shot from downtown. Watson moves away and avoids it. Knight misses with a takedown attempt - Watson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Knight with a poor takedown and Watson counters with a series of strikes. Knight will be more careful next time no doubt. Ivan Watson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Knight. Watson shoots in and gets a takedown into Knight's guard. Knight scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Knight shoots and misses and Watson counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Knight takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Watson scores with an uppercut up the middle. Watson with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Knight is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Watson postures up.
Watson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Knight can do to turn this around? Knight controlling Watson's posture.

And that's the end of the fight! Ivan Watson showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Watson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
