PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between DJ Shaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Tanlagu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tanlagu comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Where The Hood At kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Shaw has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. David Tanlagu has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with DJ Shaw's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, DJ Shaw!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 10 - 0, fighting out of The Island, David Tanlagu!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Michael Johnstone and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shaw misses with a kick to the body
and Tanlagu counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Jeez, both these guys look absolutely knackered already, that's not a good sign!
Tanlagu circles away from the clinch attempt.
Tanlagu bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
No joy there for Tanlagu, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
An inside leg kick lands from Tanlagu.

Tanlagu gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Tanlagu breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Shaw circles away from the clinch attempt

and Shaw counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Shaw.
Tanlagu is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Shaw dives into side control.
Shaw definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Shaw stands up.

The fighters circle momentarily. Shaw darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Tanlagu has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Tanlagu scores with a push kick.

Shaw closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Tanlagu pushes Shaw off and gets back to his feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by Tanlagu or perhaps it was just good defense by Shaw, which made it look bad.

Shaw moves into the clinch.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Tanlagu prevents the takedown attempt.

Shaw wants to take the fight to the mat but Tanlagu manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Shaw keeps control of Tanlagu as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Tanlagu wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Tanlagu is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Tanlagu is trying to break the clinch but Shaw has him pressed against the cage.

Shaw's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Shaw takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Tanlagu shoots in but Shaw avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Shaw tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Tanlagu buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Tanlagu keeps the fight on the outside.

Tanlagu wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.

Shaw tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Tanlagu is trying to buck Shaw off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but David Tanlagu will probably get the nod.
That's time! Shaw's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Tanlagu lands a head kick. Shaw smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
DJ Shaw is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Shaw fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Tanlagu sprawls well initially but Shaw persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Tanlagu is trying to maintain the position but Shaw is very close to passing his half guard.

Shaw stands up and beckons Tanlagu to join him on the feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tanlagu clinches up with Shaw and pushes him back against the cage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Tanlagu manages to break the clinch.
Tanlagu has a takedown stuffed.

Tanlagu misses with a wild combination.
Tanlagu defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Shaw.
A chopping leg kick lands by Tanlagu.

Shaw moves into range and clinches up with Tanlagu.
Tanlagu is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Shaw to keep the fight standing.

David Tanlagu seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Tanlagu scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Tanlagu moves in looking to clinch but Shaw pushes him off.

Shaw on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Tanlagu rushes Shaw and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Shaw wants the takedown. Tanlagu is fighting it off but Shaw persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Tanlagu's guard against the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Shaw's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Tanlagu is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Tanlagu throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Shaw escapes and throws Tanlagu's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Tanlagu is trying to control Shaw's posture but Shaw avoids it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Shaw is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Tanlagu is trying to get back to his feet.
Tanlagu wants to control but Shaw postures up.
Tanlagu tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Shaw happy to just control the position for now.
Shaw scoring with punches and elbows.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Tanlagu gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Tanlagu is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Shaw pulls his head out easily.
Well, if Shaw is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Shaw avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but David Tanlagu will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Tanlagu wants to clinch up but Shaw keeps it at a distance.

Shaw drops down looking for an ankle pick but Tanlagu pulls his leg out and moves away.
Tanlagu bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Shaw's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shaw goes for a double leg but Tanlagu avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Tanlagu continues to drive forward.
Shaw tries to score a power double leg takedown but Tanlagu sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Shaw somewhat.
Despite the aggression on Tanlagu's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for DJ Shaw. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Shaw is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Shaw tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Tanlagu paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Shaw lands a head kick!
Tanlagu jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Tanlagu throws a nice looking combination but Shaw bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Tanlagu lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Shaw backs up against the cage.
Shaw just misses with a punch to the body.
Tanlagu throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Shaw closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Shaw wants to break free but Tanlagu has control.

Tanlagu pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Tanlagu is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Shaw gets to his feet - Tanlagu follows without any prompting.

Tanlagu lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Shaw dodges the punch combination from Tanlagu.
Shaw misses with a takedown attempt - Tanlagu sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

David Tanlagu is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Shaw in particular looking to stall.

David Tanlagu comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Tanlagu winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

David Tanlagu decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
DJ Shaw was interviewed post fight and said 'FUCK FUCK FUCK this is not my fault although i thank the fans this is your fault '.
