Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between German Valdez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gaudencio Roman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gaudencio Roman told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
21 - 39 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, German Valdez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gaudencio Roman! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Roman keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Roman defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Valdez. Roman stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Roman wants it to stay on the feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for German Valdez. That's going to take a lot out of him. Roman thuds a left hand into Valdez's body. Roman looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Valdez is looking to control Roman's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Valdez avoid being mounted? Roman performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Valdez wants to control but Roman is keeping busy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Valdez taking some punishment here, with Roman in his half guard. Roman drops an elbow to the side of Valdez's head. That's one minute gone in the round. Roman is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Valdez is just riding it out for now. Roman eventually gives up the hold. Roman prevents Valdez from improving his position. Valdez is trying to stand up here but Roman is controlling him well. Roman is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Valdez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Valdez won't allow Roman to pass to mount. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Valdez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Valdez is trying to control but can't.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Roman lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Valdez wants to control but Roman is keeping busy and won't allow it. Valdez is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control. Valdez is looking for a sweep. Roman is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Roman controlling the pace. Valdez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Roman is working for a kimura but Valdez is defending it quite comfortably.
Well, if Roman is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Valdez is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Roman scores with a couple of nice shots. Roman is thwarting Valdez's attempts to control the position. Valdez ducks under a wild hook from Roman. Valdez wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Roman.
Valdez moves away from the strike by Roman. An inside leg kick lands from Roman. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Valdez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Roman circles away. Valdez chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Roman can pounce on him.

Valdez shoots in looking for a takedown but Roman manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Valdez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for German Valdez. That's going to take a lot out of him. Valdez tries for a takedown but Roman sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Roman. Valdez shrugs it off though. Roman scores with a nice strike. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Some wild striking there from Roman.
Valdez shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Roman defends it nicely. Gaudencio Roman seems to be getting the better of the standup. Valdez is trying hard to land a takedown here. Roman sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Roman connects with an inside leg kick. Roman tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Roman moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Valdez tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Roman defends well and Valdez ends up having to push Roman into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Roman lands a two punch combo.
Roman throws a looping overhand right but Valdez ducks down to avoid it. Roman sizes up Valdez with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Valdez. Valdez takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Roman connects with a leg kick. Valdez looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Roman misses with a body shot.
Valdez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Roman as he avoids it easily. Valdez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Roman avoids it really well and circles away. Roman defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Valdez. Valdez looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Roman is fending him off so far but Valdez persists. Nope, Roman circles away and we're back to standing. Roman lands a right hook to the body.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Roman lands with a shot to the body. Roman closes the distance and clinches. Roman tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Valdez avoids it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Roman prevents a takedown attempt there.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Valdez is trying to drag Roman to the mat but Roman just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Valdez tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Roman just stands there and leans against the cage. Roman lands a left hand.
Roman lands an elbow that stopped Valdez in his tracks for a moment. Roman lands a left hand.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Roman lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Valdez backwards. Roman looking to throw knees to the head but Valdez is blocking nicely.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Roman can do anything to dispel that myth. Roman escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Valdez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Valdez forces his way into half guard. Roman has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Roman is pressing down on Valdez's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Valdez working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Roman's head. Valdez preventing the sweep. Valdez is looking to pass into half guard but Roman pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Roman is in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gaudencio Roman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Roman dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Valdez. That did some damage! A combination from Roman does no damage. Valdez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Roman swivels and escapes. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for German Valdez. That's going to take a lot out of him. Nice takedown defense from Roman. No joy for Valdez on that attempt. Roman closes the distance and lands a one-two. German Valdez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Valdez shoots in but Roman avoids the takedown attempt easily. A nice side step and Roman releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. Roman scores with a leg kick.
Roman throws a mid kick that lands with a slap. Roman connects with a body shot that sends Valdez's belly button to the back. This has been an exciting period of action! Roman scores with a body shot.
Roman throws a body punch but Valdez moves out of range. Valdez slips a straight right by Roman. Roman is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Valdez rather than just go for the knockout. Valdez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Roman's waist but Roman gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Valdez off to one side. Jab by Roman. Valdez shoots in but no luck this time. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Roman moves into the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Roman is working Valdez over against the cage. Still in the clinch, Roman scores with a nice short uppercut. Roman lands a nice uppercut. Valdez is fighting off a takedown attempt but Roman is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Valdez to the mat. Valdez regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Roman sitting in guard, not really doing much. Roman stands up from guard. Let's bang! Roman throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Valdez shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Roman as he jumps to the side. Roman pushes Valdez up against the cage in a clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Roman misses with a knee to the head. Valdez fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Valdez takes an elbow to the temple. Roman breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Valdez on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Roman tries to bum rush Valdez with a series of wild strikes but Valdez uses good footwork to avoid the assault. As Roman tries to get set, Valdez tries to push him back and clinch up but Roman manages to avoid the attempt. Roman throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Valdez looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Roman is fending him off so far but Valdez persists. Nope, Roman circles away and we're back to standing. Horrible takedown attempt by Valdez or perhaps it was just good defense by Roman, which made it look bad. Valdez dives in for a single leg takedown but Roman sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Valdez fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Roman delivers a nice body kick. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Valdez. Roman throws a nice inside leg kick. Valdez misses with a takedown attempt - Roman sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. German Valdez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Roman lands a head kick!
Valdez is rocked! Roman listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Oh Valdez is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Roman connects with a jab, followed by a picture perfect straight right that sends Valdez to the canvas, out cold! What a finish by Roman!
