Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Stratovarius Smiff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hiro Sakamoto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Stratovarius Smiff!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hiro Sakamoto!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Paul Gruel and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smiff pushes Sakamoto up against the cage in a clinch.
Smiff tries for a takedown but Sakamoto manages to get underhooks.
Sakamoto tries to score a body lock takedown but Smiff shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Smiff effectively controlling the action here.
Sakamoto tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Smiff just stands there and leans against the cage.

Sakamoto manages to pull guard.
Sakamoto is controlling Smiff's posture.
Smiff slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sakamoto tries to bench press Smiff off him but Smiff keeps the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sakamoto can do anything to dispel that myth.

Smiff tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Smiff has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Sakamoto tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Smiff wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Sakamoto really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smiff. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sakamoto prevents Smiff from moving into mount.
Sakamoto is trying to control Smiff's posture but Smiff avoids it.
Sakamoto stops Smiff from passing to mount.
Smiff trying to control the position but Sakamoto is working away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sakamoto is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Sakamoto struggling a bit here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Smiff is working to tighten his grip on Sakamoto's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Sakamoto has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Smiff is really squeezing tight and eventually Sakamoto passes out! Smiff breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Stratovarius Smiff!
