Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Thiago Meida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maximiliano Meridius (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Meridius has chosen Turn Down for What as his entrance music. Maximiliano Meridius struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 186.5lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. 8 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Maximiliano Meridius! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Daniel Cesar and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Meida shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Meridius pinned against the cage. Meridius gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Meridius lands with a good body shot. Meridius moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Meridius has closed the distance and engaged Meida in a clinch.

Meida is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Meridius. Meida tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Meida has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Meridius regains half guard.

Meridius wants to lay and pray for a moment but Meida keeps working. Meridius lands a decent elbow from side control. Meridius lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Meida down.

Maximiliano Meridius is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Meida is holding Meridius down, trying to stall. Meida is trying to escape the position but Meridius is controlling the position. Maximiliano Meridius has got the better of the ground game so far.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Meida tries to get back to half guard but can't. Meridius is staying tight to Meida's torso, preventing him from escaping. Meridius is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Meida has escaped the position, nice work there. Meida is looking for a sweep. Meridius lands a nice forearm strike. Meida tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Meridius wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Sloppy strikes there by Meridius. Meida sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Thiago Meida has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Meridius content to control rather than advance.
And that's the end of the fight! Maximiliano Meridius comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Meridius has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
