Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Amr Al As!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Esau Mendel!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Roosa Järviläinen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendel throws a nice looking combination but Al As bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Mendel has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Al As is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Mendel stuns Al As with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Mendel scores with a nice right hand.
Mendel is looking to land body kicks.
A punch lands to the side of Al As 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Mendel throws a nice looking combination but Al As bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Al As turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
A head kick misses from Mendel.
Mendel misses with a series of wild punches.
Mendel misses with a takedown
and Al As makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Mendel shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Al As counters with a head kick. That will keep Mendel thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Horrible takedown attempt by Mendel or perhaps it was just good defense by Al As, which made it look bad.
Amr Al As has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Esau Mendel.

Al As lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Mendel connects with a single shot there.
Al As finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

and Al As counters with a thumping low kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mendel looks to land a combination but Al As avoids it well.

Al As fires out a quick counter leg kick but Mendel just manages to avoid it.
Mendel jabs Al As to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Mendel doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Al As counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Mendel is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Al As lands a leg kick that knocks Mendel off balance momentarily.
Mendel tries a head kick but it misses.
Al As tried to score with a low kick but Mendel checks it.
Mendel throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Mendel shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Al As but Al As pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Al As tried to counter with a leg kick but Mendel avoided it.
Al As showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Mendel.
Mendel shoots in looking for a takedown. Al As tries to sprawl out of it but Mendel keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Al As manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Al As half committed to a counter leg kick.
Mendel looks to throw the jab but Al As is out of range.
Al As connects with a solid leg kick.
Mendel closes this distance looking for a takedown but Al As circles away.
Al As fires out a quick counter leg kick but Mendel just manages to avoid it.

That was a close round but I would say that Amr Al As will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Al As will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Al As takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Al As feints and then cracks Mendel's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Mendel down.
Mendel misses with a wild combination.
Al As shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Mendel throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Al As.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mendel throws a left and a right that both miss
and Al As counters with a nice low kick that buckles Mendel's knee momentarily.
Mendel misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Al As tried to counter with a leg kick but Mendel avoided it.
Mendel is breathing heavily.

Mendel throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Al As looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
Al As walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Mendel checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Nice sprawl there from Al As as Mendel shoots in.
Al As misses with a leg kick.
Some bone on bone action there as Mendel checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Al As lands a head kick. Mendel smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

and Al As counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Mendel tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Al As defends well and Mendel ends up having to push Al As into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
And Al As counters with a quick kick to the body but Mendel blocks it.

Mendel tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Al As defends well and Mendel ends up having to push Al As into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
A little feinted left hand from Al As on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Al As scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Al As lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Al As tries to work over Mendel's front leg with a kick but Mendel checks it.
Al As uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Mendel.
Al As looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
Amr Al As is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Al As throws a low kick, looking for Mendel's leg but Mendel calmly moves out of range.
Mendel falls off balance throwing a combination
and Al As makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Al As swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Mendel's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Al As tried to score with a low kick but Mendel checks it.
Mendel misses with a few strikes there.

Mendel lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Al As circles away quickly and effectively.

As Al As backs off Mendel throws a huge counter combo but Al As manages to avoid it all.
Mendel dives in for a single leg takedown but Al As sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Both these guys seem content to just stand up and trade with eachother but Mendel might want to think about changing up his gameplan a bit because over the course of the fight, Al As has got the better of the exchanges.
Al As throws a front kick aimed at Mendel's knee but Mendel avoids it well.

Mendel changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Al As tries to avoid it but Mendel manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Al As to the ground. Al As escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
