Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Reid Monroe! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Shane Jackson! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jackson takes the fight into the clinch. Monroe tries to break free but Jackson pushes him back against the cage. Jackson jumps guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jackson is on top in guard.
Monroe might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Jackson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Jackson stands up from guard. Let's bang! Jackson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Jackson tries for a kimura but Monroe is defending well. Monroe managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Jackson.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jackson throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Monroe works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure. Jackson works his way into full mount! Monroe wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Jackson.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Jackson moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Monroe has worked his arm free - good work by Monroe!
Monroe could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Jackson decides to stand back up. Jackson dives in and scores a takedown into Monroe's guard. Monroe preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Jackson drops back, looking for a kneebar! Monroe looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Monroe looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Monroe! Jackson struggling a bit here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Monroe prevents Jackson from escaping the position. Jackson manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Jackson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Jackson throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Jackson gets full guard. Monroe throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jackson works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Jackson looking to control.
Jackson has his foot on Monroe's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Monroe works his way back into a safe position though. Jackson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Monroe defends it easily. Jackson looks winded! Monroe throws a big elbow that misses. Jackson is trying to control the position from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Jackson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Monroe working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Monroe throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Monroe scoring with some ground and pound. Monroe throws a big right hand that misses. Jackson is trying to control the position but Monroe postures up. Jackson preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Monroe cracks Jackson with a solid left hand. Monroe with a nice head shot there. Monroe has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Jackson is proving hard to escape from. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Jackson is trying to keep Monroe in close.
Jackson has his feet on Monroe's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Shane Jackson dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Jackson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Monroe's guard. Jackson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Jackson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Jackson is figuring out what he wants to do next. Jackson trying to control from half guard but Monroe is working away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Monroe pushes Jackson off looking to stand but Jackson dives back in and keeps control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Monroe avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Jackson. Jackson postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Monroe to stand up. Shane Jackson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Jackson shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Monroe is trying to defend but Jackson finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Jackson is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Jackson wants to take a breather but Monroe is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jackson is just content to waste time from the top position. Monroe takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. Jackson stands and steps away. Monroe gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Jackson swings for the body but Monroe moves out of range.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Jackson throws a series of punches but Monroe moves out of range. Jackson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Monroe, pushing him back against the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jackson has clasped his hands together around Monroe's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Jackson is breathing heavily. Monroe tries to buck Jackson off but Jackson is having none of it. Jackson wants to control but Monroe is keeping him busy. Jackson is trying to get an arm triangle but Monroe is defending well. Jackson stands up and we're back to a striking position. Monroe takes a swing at Jackson's ribcage but misses. Jackson tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A momentary lapse in concentration from Monroe enables Jackson to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Monroe manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Monroe kicks Jackson off and gets to his feet. Jackson throws an off balance right hand
and Monroe makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Jackson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Jackson closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Monroe did well to prevent Jackson getting side control. Monroe has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Jackson is on him like a limpet, forcing Monroe back against the cage. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Monroe misses with an elbow strike.

That was a close second round but I would say that Reid Monroe will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!
Jackson closes the distance but Monroe moves to the side and Monroe connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Jackson goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Jackson closes the distance but Monroe moves to the side and Jackson takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Jackson lands with a kick to the ribs.

Monroe went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Jackson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Monroe has one foot on Jackson's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Jackson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jackson tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Monroe counters with a lovely straight right hand! Monroe has closed the distance and engaged Jackson in a clinch.
Monroe wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Jackson jumps guard and drags Monroe to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Jackson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Jackson throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Monroe throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Monroe landing with the ground and pound. Monroe landing some decent shots from guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Monroe trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Monroe working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Jackson's head. Monroe working some strikes from top position. Jackson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Monroe defends it easily. Jackson seems keen to control Monroe's posture. Reid Monroe overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Jackson is looking to stand up but Monroe isn't so interested in that idea. Monroe makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Monroe has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Monroe working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Monroe has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Jackson is proving hard to escape from.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Monroe is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Jackson kicks Monroe off and gets to his feet. Monroe gets caught napping as Jackson dives in and scores a takedown. Monroe manages to retain guard. Monroe pushes Jackson off and gets back to his feet.
Jackson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Monroe quickly recovers to half guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Monroe pushes Jackson off and gets back to his feet. Jackson lands a leg kick that knocks Monroe off balance momentarily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The fight stays on the outside here - Monroe looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Jackson throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Monroe counters with a straight right hand. Monroe connects with a body shot. Monroe stuns Jackson with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Jackson moves in looking to clinch but Monroe pushes him off. Jackson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Monroe to the mat! Monroe manages to get full guard. Monroe pushes Jackson off and scrambles back to his feet.
And that's the end of the fight! Reid Monroe showed his dominance in that final round. I think Monroe has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
