Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Connor McGregor! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Erwin Hall! The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Sam Margolis and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McGregor lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt. Hall has taken the fight to the clinch.
Hall breaks the clinch.
Hall blocks a head kick by McGregor.
Hall misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
McGregor swings and misses with a hook to the body.
We've been told by McGregor's head coaches at Cozad MMA London that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. McGregor thumps Hall with a low kick. McGregor misses with a double jab.
McGregor misses with a jab, cross combination.
Hall moves into the clinch. Hall looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. McGregor manages to break the clinch.
McGregor scores with a head kick. Hall tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time. McGregor throws a sloppy head kick and Hall counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Hall. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Hall postures up in McGregor's guard and throws a big left but McGregor blocks it. McGregor is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hall is controlling him. Hall is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Hall connects with a couple of short punches.
That's one minute gone in the round. McGregor utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. McGregor wants to stand up but Hall is controlling him. McGregor can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Hall controls the pace. Hall is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Hall is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hall stands up from guard. Let's bang! McGregor closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
It looks like Connor McGregor has been cut. Hall takes a body punch but keeps moving. Hall looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for McGregor! Hall tries to move into full mount but can't pass McGregor's legs.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The referee asks Hall politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Hall prefers to stall for the moment though. Hall is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. McGregor knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Hall scores with punches from side control. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Hall working the head with strikes. McGregor pushes Hall away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Hall gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Hall stands up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McGregor is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Hall throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck McGregor on the side of the head. Nice uppercut lands for Hall. That snapped McGregor's head back.
McGregor is rocked! McGregor closes the distance but Hall moves to the side and Hall counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Oh McGregor is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Hall postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! McGregor covers up, he's hurt! Hall keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Hall and the ref steps in to end the fight! Hall can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Erwin Hall! After the big win, Erwin Hall made sure to do all the important stuff like thanking his sponsors Lion Fightwear and telling the interviewer how much he loves him.
