PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Simon Carlsen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Harry Sachz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Harry Sachz told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Simon Carlsen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Harry Sachz!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Daniel Blasius and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carlsen connects with a solid leg kick.

It looks like Simon Carlsen has been cut.
Sachz ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Carlsen moves away.
Carlsen is looking to counter with a shot to the body.

It looks like Harry Sachz has been cut.
Sachz fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Carlsen avoids it really well and circles away.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Carlsen goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Carlsen throws a low kick, looking for Sachz's leg but Sachz calmly moves out of range.
Carlsen uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Sachz.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Carlsen ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Sachz drives through with a takedown into guard.

Carlsen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sachz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Sachz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Carlsen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carlsen controls Sachz momentarily but Sachz frees himself.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sachz lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Sachz is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Carlsen sees it coming and defends easily.

The fighters are battling for position here. Carlsen manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Carlsen is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Carlsen looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sachz is one step ahead there.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Sachz working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
Sachz with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Simon Carlsen will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Carlsen tries to land a front kick but Sachz steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Sachz tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Carlsen gets caught flat footed, as Sachz shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Carlsen is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Sachz defends well.

Carlsen is looking to regain half guard here but Sachz keeps moving and retains side control.
Sachz has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sachz wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Carlsen, who protects the arm well.

Carlsen is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Sachz is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Carlsen tries to reverse the position but Sachz maintains control.

Sachz has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
