PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jerald Dyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shane Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jerald Dyer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Shane Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dyer takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Jackson keeps the fight on the outside.
Jackson is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Dyer with a body shot.
Jackson misses with a double jab.

Jackson shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Jackson showed some decent athleticism there.
Jackson tries to pass the half guard into mount. Dyer knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Jackson wants to control but Dyer is keeping him busy.

Dyer looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Dyer looks like he's trying to stand up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jackson escapes and gets back to his feet.

Jackson rushes Dyer and presses him up against the cage.
Jackson misses with a knee strike.

Dyer escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Dyer takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.

Jackson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Dyer manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Jackson gets a double leg takedown into Dyer's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Dyer wants to improve his position but instead Jackson has moved into half guard.
Dyer keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Dyer knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jackson on the ground.
Jackson keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Jackson is thwarting Dyer's attempts to control the position.

Jackson is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Jackson looks winded!

Jackson slows the pace down in half guard.

Jackson wants to work for an arm triangle but Dyer is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jackson prevents Dyer from improving his position.
Dyer misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Jackson stops Dyer from getting back to his feet.
Dyer trying to control but Jackson postures up.
Dyer avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Jackson.
Jackson passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Dyer!

Jackson wants to control the pace but Dyer is squirming around nicely.

Jackson is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Dyer to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Dyer shrugs it off.

Jackson is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Jackson uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Jackson looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Dyer kicks off Jackson and gets to his feet.

Jackson scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Dyer is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Dyer is trying to control Jackson's posture but Jackson avoids it.
Jackson advances nicely into full mount.
Jackson trying to control but Dyer is having none of it.
Jackson throws some wild stikes that Dyer manages to avoid easily.
Jackson throwing strikes here but Dyer is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dyer can't escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shane Jackson dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Dyer shoots for a double leg takedown but Jackson sprawls well. He's pushed Dyer's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Jackson moves into the clinch.
Dyer is trying to break free.
Jackson gets underhooks to prevent Dyer's takedown attempt.
Jackson blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Jackson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Jackson has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Dyer regains guard immediately.

Jackson gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Dyer shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Jackson defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jerald Dyer. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jackson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Dyer looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Dyer bucks up and tries to throw Jackson off but instead Jackson has got his back!
I would not like to be Dyer right now.
Dyer turns into Jackson and is now in his guard.
Dyer really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Jackson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Jackson postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Dyer to stand up.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jackson closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Dyer's guard.
Jackson loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Dyer is trying to hold Jackson in close to prevent damage but Jackson has managed to pass into half guard.
Jackson perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Jackson frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Jackson stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

Jackson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Jackson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Jackson tries to score with some ground and pound. Dyer controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Dyer is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Jackson is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Dyer tries to lock up and control but Jackson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Jackson wants to finish this one by submission but Dyer is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Jackson.
Jackson misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Jackson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Dyer is squirming around, avoiding Jackson's attempts to control the action.

Dyer somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!
Jackson circles away from the clinch attempt.
Jackson is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.

Jackson gets in close and instigates a clinch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Dyer is looking to break free of the clinch but Jackson has double underhooks.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shane Jackson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Jackson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Dyer manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Jackson keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Dyer tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Dyer tries to stall but Jackson uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Dyer wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Jackson has him pressed against the cage.
Dyer wants to get back to striking at distance but Jackson won't allow it.

Jackson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Jackson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jackson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Jackson passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Jackson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Dyer pecks away with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Jackson tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Dyer is trying to buck Jackson off.
Dyer is trying to get back to half guard.
Dyer trying to remain calm as Jackson controls from the top position.
Jackson is continuing to stall.
Dyer is not content to let Jackson control the position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Dyer is looking for a sweep.
Dyer is trying to control Jackson's posture but Jackson avoids it.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Dyer can't do much from the bottom here.
Dyer is trying to get back to half guard.
Jackson staying calm.
Let's hope that Jackson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Jackson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Dyer can't do much from the bottom here.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Jackson lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Jackson defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Dyer.
Jackson lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Dyer shoots in and drives through. Jackson sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jerald Dyer. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dyer shoots in for a takedown but Jackson shows good takedown defense.
Jackson throws a sloppy head kick and Dyer moves out of range easily.
Dyer swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

Jackson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Jackson lands in his opponent's guard.

Jackson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Jackson distracts Dyer with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Jackson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Dyer's guard.
Jackson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Shane Jackson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jackson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
