30 - 30 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, George Steele! The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Sosuke Kotani and Ren Mimura.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Oppelaar throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Steele is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Oppelaar's half guard. Steele is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Steele is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Steele trying to control from half guard but Oppelaar is working away. Oppelaar tries to get to full guard but Steele has control of the leg. Steele is working for a submission of some sort.
Steele is looking to advance position but Oppelaar won't allow it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Oppelaar is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Steele is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
That's one minute gone in the round. Oppelaar has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Steele is working away from the top position though. The fighters are battling for position here. Oppelaar manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Steele trying to control but Oppelaar is working from the bottom. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Steele accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Steele postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Oppelaar lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Steele keeping moving, preventing Oppelaar from controlling successfully. Oppelaar stands up over Steele, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Steele is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Oppelaar avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Oppelaar postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Steele had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Oppelaar defends it easily. Oppelaar scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Oppelaar cracks Steele with a solid left hand. Steele looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Oppelaar passes into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Oppelaar creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
