PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lewis Rampage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jade Mclaughlin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lewis Rampage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jade Mclaughlin!
The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Eliza Hachem and Ben Hemmingworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mclaughlin forces Rampage back against the cage and clinches.
Rampage wants a takedown but no success here.
Mclaughlin is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Rampage drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Mclaughlin is trying to force a seperation but Rampage has the dominant position.
Rampage doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Rampage goes for a takedown attempt but Mclaughlin pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lewis Rampage. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Rampage clinches up against the cage.

Rampage tightens his grip and picks Mclaughlin up, before dumping him to the ground. Mclaughlin manages to land in guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mclaughlin has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Rampage avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Rampage drives through and clinches with Mclaughlin against the cage.

Mclaughlin is looking to take this one to the mat.
Rampage is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Mclaughlin gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Rampage has clasped his hands together around Mclaughlin's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Rampage has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Rampage drops his hands momentarily and Mclaughlin takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Mclaughlin is refusing to be controlled, as Rampage sits in half guard.
Mclaughlin is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Mclaughlin has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Madz **21 Elite coaches**. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Rampage wants to control but Mclaughlin is keeping him busy.

Rampage is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Mclaughlin has managed to free his arm - good work.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rampage is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Mclaughlin is pressing down on Rampage's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mclaughlin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Mclaughlin is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Mclaughlin is pressing down on Rampage's thigh, looking to free his foot. Rampage is holding on for now.

That was a close round but I would say that Lewis Rampage will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Rampage closes the distance and pushes Mclaughlin back into the cage.
Rampage drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Mclaughlin gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Mclaughlin is trying to break the clinch but Rampage has him pressed against the cage.
Rampage is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Mclaughlin pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Rampage darts in looking for a takedown but Mclaughlin gets double underhooks and turns Rampage into the cage.

Rampage sneaks out the side door and pushes Mclaughlin away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Rampage jumps guard but Mclaughlin turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Rampage has picked Mclaughlin up - he's going for a ride! Rampage dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Lewis Rampage overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mclaughlin can do anything to dispel that myth.

Rampage is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Rampage is trying to work for a kimura but Mclaughlin is defending well.
Rampage seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Mclaughlin makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Mclaughlin.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rampage is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Mclaughlin is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rampage gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Rampage tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Mclaughlin counters with a left to the body.
A jab from Mclaughlin finds it's way through Rampage's defenses.
Rampage dodges the punch combination from Mclaughlin.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rampage throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

Mclaughlin has closed the distance and engaged Rampage in a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Jade Mclaughlin will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Rampage's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Rampage jumps guard but Mclaughlin stands there with Rampage around his waist. Rampage gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Mclaughlin rolls, trying to escape but Rampage keeps control of the position.
Mclaughlin breaks Rampage's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Rampage avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Rampage is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Rampage wants to improve his position but Mclaughlin is controlling well.

Rampage is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Mclaughlin's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Mclaughlin's back!

Rampage is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Mclaughlin defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Mclaughlin is trying to get back to his feet but Rampage has full control of the position and if anything, Mclaughlin has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Mclaughlin turns into Rampage and is now in his guard.

Rampage looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Rampage wants to sweep but no luck.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Mclaughlin has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rampage is proving hard to escape from.

Mclaughlin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rampage has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mclaughlin has managed to get both his arms back between Rampage's legs - danger averted.
Rampage is pulling down on Mclaughlin's head. It's preventing any offense from Mclaughlin, at least for the moment.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Lewis Rampage.
I think Rampage has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
