PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Marcelo Aurelio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nikolai Radev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Nikolai Radev was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Marcelo Aurelio!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 13 - 0, fighting out of London, Nikolai Radev!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Aafke Stam and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Radev walks into a straight right hand from Aurelio.
Radev stuffs the takedown.
Marcelo Aurelio seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Radev jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

Radev decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Aurelio is looking for a sweep. Radev is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Aurelio is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Radev scores with a couple of nice shots.
Radev not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Aurelio wants to improve his position but Radev is controlling well.
Aurelio has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Radev is working away from the top position though.

Radev takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Aurelio is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Radev pulls his head out easily.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Aurelio keeping moving, preventing Radev from controlling successfully.
Aurelio looking to hit a scissor sweep but Radev is one step ahead there.

Radev postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Radev pushing down on Aurelio's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Aurelio tries to get to full guard but Radev has control of the leg.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Radev slips a nice elbow through Aurelio's hands, connecting with Aurelio's forehead.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Radev working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nikolai Radev dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Aurelio takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Aurelio tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Radev was well out of range. Poor timing from Aurelio.
Radev fails to land the takedown.

Radev drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Aurelio seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Aurelio wants to sweep here but Radev controlling him for the moment.
Nikolai Radev has got the better of the ground game so far.
Radev chips away with some ground and pound.

Radev with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Radev postures up in Aurelio's guard and throws a big left but Aurelio blocks it.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Radev's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Radev is in close to Aurelio's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Aurelio has his foot on Radev's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Radev works his way back into a safe position though.
Radev is working Aurelio over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Radev is posturing up here but Aurelio has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Radev tries to roll out but it's too tight and Radev has to tap! Slick submission there by Aurelio!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Marcelo Aurelio!
A very excited looking Marcelo Aurelio made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
