Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vaughn Ellis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cassidy Robbins! The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Anthony Taglia and Steve Montenegro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Robbins shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Well, if Robbins is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Robbins looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Ellis with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ellis looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Robbins keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Robbins looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Ellis with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Robbins lands a nice short elbow. Robbins is looking to advance position but Ellis won't allow it. Ellis is trying to maintain the position but Robbins is very close to passing his half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Robbins is figuring out what he wants to do next. Ellis really is a fat lump. It looks like Robbins might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Robbins thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Robbins is figuring out what he wants to do next.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Robbins's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Robbins looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Ellis with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Robbins tries to pass to full mount but Ellis defends it. Robbins keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. More stalling from Robbins. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Robbins shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Robbins showed some decent athleticism there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Robbins perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Ellis is pressing down on Robbins's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Ellis can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Robbins controls the pace. Robbins forces his way into half guard. Robbins slows the pace down in half guard. Robbins with more of the same as he continues to hold on.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Robbins postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Ellis to stand up. Robbins closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. You can see the frustration on Ellis's face as Robbins controls the position. Ellis is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Robbins controls the position from side control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Cassidy Robbins dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Robbins darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Ellis is rocked! Robbins is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Ellis is hurt! He's hurt bad - Robbins fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Ellis from any more punishment! Congratulations to Robbins! Great finish!
