Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nathan McGregor! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alex Silva! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Silva feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. McGregor has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Silva controls the pace of the fight for a moment. McGregor knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Silva on the ground. Silva trying to control but McGregor is working from the bottom. Silva content to stall in guard here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. McGregor managing to control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. McGregor trying to keep a closed guard but Silva is proving a slippery customer.
McGregor is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Silva is controlling him.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Silva tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target. Nathan McGregor seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. McGregor tries to close the distance and clinch but Silva swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. McGregor keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. McGregor throws a big counter combination but Silva scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. McGregor will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. The fight stays on the outside here - McGregor looks like he's thinking about clinching though. McGregor throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Silva holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. McGregor is trying to break the clinch but Silva is controlling him. Silva gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, McGregor regains guard.
Silva slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. McGregor is trying to control Silva's posture but Silva avoids it. Silva throws a strike aimed at the side of McGregor's head but McGregor avoids it well. McGregor tries to escape back to his feet but Silva has kept hold of him... Oh, now he's got McGregor's back and is looking for the choke... Is it? Is it sunk in? YES! McGregor is tapping! Silva saw the opportunity and took it - ruthless!
