PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Danilo Leblanc (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cain Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Danilo Leblanc!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Cain Velasquez!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Donald Grub and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Leblanc tries a head kick but it misses.
Velasquez misses with a straight right.
Leblanc tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Velasquez manages to circle out of the way.
Leblanc shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Velasquez but Velasquez pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Velasquez tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Leblanc misses with a hook

and Velasquez counters with a takedown into side control.
Velasquez remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

It looks like Velasquez might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Leblanc tries to bench press Velasquez off him but Velasquez keeps the position.

Velasquez's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Velasquez misses with the ground and pound.
Leblanc is trying to escape the position but Velasquez is controlling the position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Leblanc is looking to regain half guard here but Velasquez keeps moving and retains side control.

Velasquez controls the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Leblanc throws a head kick that misses.
Velasquez feints the counter takedown.
Velasquez throws a nice outside leg kick.
Velasquez paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Velasquez closes the distance and pushes Leblanc back into the cage.

Velasquez gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Leblanc regains guard.

Velasquez throwing strikes from guard but Leblanc blocks nicely.
Leblanc is breathing heavily.
Velasquez throws a big elbow that misses.
Velasquez's corner is telling him to maintain position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Leblanc goes for a double leg but Velasquez avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Velasquez continues to drive forward.
Leblanc shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Velasquez sprawls well. Velasquez wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Leblanc gets slowly back to his feet.
And Velasquez tries to counter it with a takedown but Leblanc pushes his down on his head and steps out.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cain Velasquez dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Velasquez feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Leblanc is trying to control the position but Velasquez postures up.

Let's hope that Velasquez has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

More stalling from Velasquez.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Velasquez throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Leblanc tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Velasquez is in Leblanc's guard.
Velasquez looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Velasquez trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Velasquez throws an elbow that misses. Leblanc uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Velasquez's guard. Nice move by Leblanc!

Leblanc controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Velasquez managing to control the position.

Leblanc trying to control but Velasquez is working from the bottom.
Velasquez is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Velasquez is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Velasquez stops Leblanc from getting back to his feet.
Leblanc tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Velasquez with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Velasquez closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Leblanc's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cain Velasquez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Leblanc's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Leblanc moves out of range of the strikes.
A combination from Leblanc does no damage.

Velasquez bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Velasquez cracks Leblanc with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Velasquez scores with a couple of short elbows.
Velasquez staying calm.
Velasquez landing strikes.
Cain Velasquez is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Leblanc prevents Velasquez from improving position.
Velasquez is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Leblanc's shoulder. That is not cool.

We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Velasquez.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Leblanc gets caught flat footed, as Velasquez shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Velasquez passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Cain Velasquez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Velasquez has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
