Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mega Funkyama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, John Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yukihiro Shimada and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Funkyama stuffs the takedown.
Johnson takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Johnson shoots in for a takedown but Funkyama shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Johnson fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
A quick step to the side and Funkyama tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Mega Funkyama has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Johnson.
Funkyama displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Johnson.
Funkyama buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Funkyama lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Funkyama darts in and clinches Johnson up against the cage.

Funkyama is trying to trip Johnson. He has hold of a leg but Johnson is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Funkyama persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Funkyama passes Johnson's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Funkyama will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Funkyama is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Funkyama is looking for a kimura but Johnson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Funkyama to get the leverage.

Johnson is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Funkyama scores with a couple of nice shots.

Funkyama seems to be working for a kimura but Johnson defends the submission attempt.
Funkyama has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Johnson tries to roll over but Funkyama keeps him under control.

Funkyama in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Johnson tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Funkyama!
