Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Francisco Crocdale! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steve Irwin! The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Francis DeMontford and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Irwin gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Crocdale to score an easy takedown into full guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Irwin is adopting a defensive guard. Crocdale missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Crocdale trying to control but Irwin is working from the bottom. Crocdale controls the pace of the fight for a moment. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Irwin is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Crocdale pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Irwin is keeping the position for now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Irwin managing to control the position. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Irwin blocks a head kick by Crocdale.
Irwin throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Crocdale's waist but Crocdale gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Irwin off to one side. Crocdale is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Irwin's half guard. Crocdale tries to stand but can't do so whilst Irwin controls his leg. Irwin is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Irwin gets full guard. Crocdale looking to pass the guard. Crocdale gets to his feet - Irwin follows without any prompting. Crocdale drives through with a takedown into Irwin's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Crocdale content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Irwin has locked up a guillotine! Irwin's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Crocdale is holding on here and Irwin must be using up a lot of energy. Crocdale has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Irwin gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Steve Irwin! Steve Irwin took his opportunity to call for a title shot in his post fight interview.
