Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Matthew Diaz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dimitry Jones! The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice takedown defense from Diaz. No joy for Jones on that attempt. Diaz misses with a takedown attempt - Jones sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Jones closes this distance looking for a takedown but Diaz circles away. Diaz quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect. Diaz tries to keep at a distance but Jones has taken the fight into the clinch. Jones on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Jones is trying to push Diaz away but Diaz has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Diaz has Jones pushed against the cage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jones is working for takedown but Diaz is calmly controlling the position for now. Matthew Diaz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dimitry Jones. Diaz manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Diaz thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Jones is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Jones struggling a bit here.

Jones is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Jones manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Jones throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Diaz to regain full guard. Diaz looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Diaz preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Diaz swivels though and keeps the full guard. Jones is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

It looks like Matthew Diaz has been cut. Jones works over Diaz's head and body with a nice combination. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Jones shoots in for a takedown. That was a close round but I would say that Matthew Diaz will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Matthew Diaz's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Jones feints a jab promting Diaz to slip. Jones then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Diaz slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. Diaz fails in his attempt to clinch. Jones has closed the distance and engaged Diaz in a clinch.
Jones has had enough of the clinch but Diaz keeps him there for the moment. The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows. Diaz controlling the action here for a moment.

Diaz ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Diaz no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Diaz is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Diaz isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Jones stacks Diaz on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Jones! Jones decides to take the fight back to the feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jones works over Diaz's head and body with a nice combination. Jones throws a leg kick that is checked and Diaz counters with a shoot takedown. Jones fights it but they end up in guard. Diaz postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Diaz postures up in Jones's guard and throws a big left but Jones blocks it. Jones looking to control.
Jones might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Diaz haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Diaz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Diaz scoring with punches to the head and body. Diaz gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Jones misses with a head kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Diaz closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Matthew Diaz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Diaz in side control, throwing shots but Jones defends. Diaz works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Diaz is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Jones has escaped the position, nice work there. Diaz lands an elbow. You can see the frustration on Jones's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Diaz tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Diaz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Jones tries to buck Diaz off but Diaz is having none of it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Diaz lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Jones has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Jones and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Jones tries to clinch there but Diaz circles away.
Dimitry Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jones is defended easily by Diaz. Jones tries to clinch up but Diaz circles away and keeps his distance. Diaz tries to counter with a takedown but Jones is quick to defend against it. Diaz avoids a punch combination nicely.

Jones throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Diaz's waist but Diaz gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jones off to one side. Jones tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Diaz manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Dimitry Jones seems to be getting the better of the standup. Diaz gets tackled into the cage by Jones. Jones maintains the clinch. Diaz stops a takedown attempt from Jones.
Jones has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Diaz avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Diaz is defending well against a takedown attempt. Diaz has Jones pushed against the cage. Diaz fails to pull the fight into his guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Diaz pulls guard effortlessly. Diaz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Jones is looking for a sweep. Diaz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Diaz looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Jones with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Diaz landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Diaz is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Diaz takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Jones is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Diaz scores with a couple of nice shots. Diaz lands strikes from half guard.

Diaz lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Diaz is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Jones doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Diaz. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Jones taking some punishment here, with Diaz in his half guard.
