PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Efren Porter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marko Filipovic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Filipovic has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Efren Porter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Marko Filipovic!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Gregory Folan and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Porter clinches.

Filipovic jumps into guard, dragging Porter to the mat.
Filipovic looks winded!
Filipovic looking to control.
Porter is in close to Filipovic's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Porter wanted to stand there but Filipovic had control of the position.
Filipovic is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Porter throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Porter stands up and waves to Filipovic to follow him.
Filipovic fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Porter checks it well.
Porter fails in his attempt to clinch.

Porter moves into the clinch.

Porter looking to slow down the pace here.
Filipovic can't break the clinch.
Filipovic working hard to break the clinch.
Filipovic tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Porter's elbow.
Porter wants to take the fight to the mat but Filipovic manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Porter's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Porter has picked Filipovic up - he's going for a ride! Porter dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Porter is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Porter is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Filipovic is just riding it out for now. Porter eventually gives up the hold.
Porter not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Porter is keen to just control but Filipovic is a slippery customer.

Porter looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Porter is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Filipovic has managed to free his arm - good work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Filipovic looks like he's trying to stand up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Porter tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Porter throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Porter tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Filipovic defends well and Porter ends up having to push Filipovic into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Filipovic is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Porter tries to close the distance and clinch but Filipovic swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Porter gets the takedown into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Porter blocks a head kick by Filipovic.
Porter shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Filipovic decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Porter's guard.

Filipovic is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Porter is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Porter has escaped and now he's on top!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Filipovic wants to sweep here but Porter controlling him for the moment.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Filipovic can do anything to dispel that myth.

Porter would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Porter stands up and waves to Filipovic to follow him.

Porter scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Porter tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Porter has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Porter tries to score with some ground and pound. Filipovic controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Porter wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Filipovic, who protects the arm well.

Porter is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Filipovic is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Porter goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Filipovic has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Porter but great work by Filipovic.
Porter is looking for a sweep.
Porter could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Filipovic swings around for an armbar but Porter sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Filipovic's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Filipovic bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Porter's guard.

Filipovic works over Porter with some ground and pound from guard.
Filipovic is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Filipovic trying to stand up but can't free himself from Porter's guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Filipovic throws a big elbow that misses.
Porter not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Filipovic wants to stand and escape but instead Porter has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Porter wants to stand but Filipovic has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

A close second round but Marko Filipovic will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Porter checks a leg kick.
Porter tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Filipovic manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Porter feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Filipovic's calf.
Porter changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Filipovic tries to avoid it but Porter manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Filipovic to the ground. Filipovic escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Filipovic lands a heavy elbow.
Porter tries to reverse the position but Filipovic maintains control.

Filipovic jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Porter manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Filipovic has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Porter can't escape the position.
Porter looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Porter tries to roll but Filipovic sticks to his back.
Filipovic loading up with punches from the back mount - how long can Porter hold on?
Porter trying to control the hands but Filipovic breaks the grip.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Filipovic is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Porter is trying to break free.
Filipovic is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Porter up.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Filipovic. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Filipovic biding his time, looking for the opening.
Filipovic lands a shot to the head.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Porter is trying to break free.

And that's the end of the fight!
Marko Filipovic comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Filipovic has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
