Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mitchell Miller! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Haiden Parish! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Chris Downing and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Miller looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Miller winds up and cracks Parish with a swinging punch to the side of the head. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Miller seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Parish for as long as he can get away with. Miller lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Parish can do anything to dispel that myth. Miller controlling the action here. Miller thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Parish's head. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Miller has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's one minute gone in the round. Miller thows a huge punch but Parish dodges it nicely.
Miller is taking a breather. Parish says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Miller has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Parish taking some punishment here, with Miller in his half guard. Miller is looking for a kimura but Parish is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Miller to get the leverage. Miller throwing shots but Parish is blocking nicely. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Parish wants to control but Miller passes into side.
Miller controls the position. Miller working the ground and pound from side control. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Parish looks winded! Miller has an Americana. Parish didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Miller is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Miller hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Mitchell Miller!
