Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dynamite Pope (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Quinton Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pope comes to the cage accompanied by ACDC - TNT. Dynamite Pope has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Quinton Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Daniel Franklin and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Pope with that takedown attempt.
Jackson looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Pope pushes Jackson up against the cage in a clinch.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Pope lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pope throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Pope is taking a breather. Jackson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Jackson keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Pope is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Pope has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jackson can do anything to dispel that myth.
Pope looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Pope throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Pope content to control rather than advance.
Pope throwing shots but Jackson is blocking nicely.
Pope will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Pope throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Pope looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Pope.
Pope continues to hold on tight.
Pope missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Jackson is looking to control Pope's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Jackson avoid being mounted?
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Pope is taking a breather. Jackson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Jackson.

Pope explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Pope shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Pope was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The ground and pound from Pope seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Jackson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pope. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Pope looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Jackson is avoiding damage well.

Pope moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Pope's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Pope seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Jackson for as long as he can get away with.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pope creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Jackson sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jackson defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Pope.

Pope shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Pope showed some decent athleticism there.

Jackson is breathing heavily.

Pope seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Pope has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Pope cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Jackson holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Pope tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Pope has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Pope unloads with some shots from mount but Jackson bucks and avoids them well.

Pope connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Pope misses with a head shot.
Pope punching from mount but Jackson doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Pope throwing strikes here but Jackson is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Pope thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Pope is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Pope extends the arm and Jackson is forced to tap!
