PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hans Huber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sigurd Ragnarsson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ragnarsson has chosen The Animal as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Hans Huber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sigurd Ragnarsson!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Dillan Fox and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Huber lands the left hand.
Ragnarsson connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Huber's hands.
Huber fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Ragnarsson has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Ragnarsson swings for the body but Huber moves out of range.
Huber cracks a nice hook into Ragnarsson's ribs.
Huber moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Huber misses with an uppercut. Ragnarsson saw that one coming.
Huber slips under a jab.
Huber was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Ragnarsson lands with a good body shot.

Ragnarsson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Huber sprawls well initially but Ragnarsson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ragnarsson content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Huber is looking for a sweep. Ragnarsson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ragnarsson wants to pass the guard but Huber is defending well.
Huber wants to improve his position but Ragnarsson is controlling well.
Ragnarsson wants to pass to mount but Huber is defending the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ragnarsson is controlling the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Huber gets back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Ragnarsson wants to control from the top but Huber keeps moving.
Ragnarsson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Ragnarsson trying to control but Huber is working from the bottom.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Huber throws a jab when Ragnarsson was well out of range.

Huber rushes Ragnarsson and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
I was talking to Huber's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Ragnarsson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Huber staying out of range there.
A little feinted left hand from Huber on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Huber misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Ragnarsson.

Ragnarsson shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Huber manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Ragnarsson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Huber swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Ragnarsson trying to control but Huber is working from the bottom.
Huber seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Huber keeping moving, preventing Ragnarsson from controlling successfully.
Ragnarsson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Ragnarsson wants to control from the top but Huber keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Huber scoring well with a low kick there.
Ragnarsson walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ragnarsson tries to move into range but Huber moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Ragnarsson misses with a hook
and Huber counters with a straight right hand.


Ragnarsson is rocked!
Ragnarsson throws a body punch but Huber moves out of range.
Ragnarsson has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Hans Huber seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Huber connects with a right hand. Ragnarsson shakes it off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Hans Huber will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


A swing and a miss from Ragnarsson.
Ragnarsson is still on wobbly legs! Can Huber finish him?
Ragnarsson walks into a straight right, dropping him to the canvas! Huber swarms him and finishes the fight with a hail of punches! What a brutal finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:08 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Hans Huber!
In his post fight interview, Hans Huber started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
