Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Anderson Gagagin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sam Trout! The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Konstantin Menshow and Fedor Mirinova.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gagagin closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Trout to the mat! Trout manages to get full guard. Trout not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Gagagin wants to get up but he can't break Trout's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Gagagin is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Gagagin trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Gagagin wants to stand but Trout has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Gagagin tries to free his leg and advance position but Trout is retaining full guard. Gagagin is working hard here to advance position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gagagin in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Trout trying to keep a closed guard but Gagagin is proving a slippery customer.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Trout misses with an uppercut. Horrible takedown attempt by Gagagin or perhaps it was just good defense by Trout, which made it look bad.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gagagin feints and as Trout raises his hands in defense, Gagagin changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Gagagin throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Trout works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Gagagin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. That's two minutes gone in the round. Gagagin trying to control but Trout is working from the bottom. Gagagin is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Trout is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Gagagin is really struggling to control Trout but he's trying to hold on to the position. Trout looking for a sweep. Not yet Trout, not yet. Gagagin throwing strikes from guard but Trout blocks nicely. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Trout is on top in guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Trout won't allow Gagagin to get back to his feet. Trout stands and throws Gagagin's legs to the side, diving into side control. Gagagin is not content to let Trout control the position. Trout tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Trout in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Gagagin is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
