Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jin Taiga! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tal Gator! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Ryoma Takatsuka and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Taiga is looking to land body kicks. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Gator! But no joy. Gator closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Taiga's guard. Gator stands and steps away. Taiga gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Gator stuffs the takedown attempt from Taiga. Taiga gets slowly back to his feet. Taiga fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Gator swats away the attempt to clinch by Taiga. Taiga fails with an attempt to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Taiga fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Gator avoids it really well and circles away. Taiga sets himself, and Gator steps forward looking for the clinch! Taiga avoids it this time. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jin Taiga. That's going to take a lot out of him. Gator scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gator thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Gator passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Taiga! Gator is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Taiga is surviving well by controlling Gator's body position as best he can. Taiga knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gator on the ground. Gator controlling the position easily from mount. Gator trying to control but he's not successful this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gator has hold of Taiga's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Taiga manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Taiga is working to get back to half guard.
Taiga is bucking up trying to escape but Gator cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Taiga flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Gator is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Taiga has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Gator with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Gator avoids the attempt from Taiga to control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gator controlling from the full mount. Gator looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Gator looking to control but Taiga is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Gator working for a submission but Taiga is keeping him at bay. Gator looking to isolate an arm here. Taiga doesn't see it coming and as Gator extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Gator!
