PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Shit Face (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Vegata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Face comes into the arena with Blue clear sky blaring out of the sound system. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 32 - 21 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Shit Face!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 30 - 2, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Antonio Vegata!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Ian Loll and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Face shoots in looking for a takedown. Vegata tries to sprawl out of it but Face keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Vegata manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Vegata feints a jab promting Face to slip. Vegata then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Face slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Face fails to land the takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Face shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shit Face. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Vegata slaps away a takedown attempt from Face, before circling back to the center of the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Face has picked Vegata up - he's going for a ride! Face dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Vegata manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Face keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Face has picked Vegata up - he's going for a ride! Face dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Face is working for a submission of some sort.
Face sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Vegata defending well though.
Face has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Face works his way into side control.
Face trying to control the action but Vegata is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Face is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Vegata is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Face goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Vegata rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Face's guard! Nice work there by Vegata!

Face is trying to control the position but Vegata postures up.

Face is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Vegata is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Face looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Vegata trying to control the position from guard on top but Face is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Vegata has Face up against the cage in a clinch.
Vegata tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Face avoids it.
Face has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Vegata is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Vegata stops a takedown attempt from Face.
Vegata looking to throw knees to the head but Face is blocking nicely.
Face blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Vegata using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Face has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Face has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Vegata avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shit Face. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Face has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Vegata is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Vegata prevents the takedown attempt.
Vegata's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Vegata tries to land knees in the clinch but Face avoids the damage to the body.
Vegata is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Vegata gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Face.

Face turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Vegata prevents Face from improving position.
Vegata tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Vegata seems a little lost for a moment, as Face dominates the positioning.
Vegata takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
You can see the frustration on Vegata's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Vegata is looking for a sweep.

Face tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Face working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Face working the strikes but Vegata uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
Face sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Vegata defending well though.

Face is keen to just control but Vegata is a slippery customer.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Face wants to free his trapped foot but Vegata is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Face scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Face wants to take a breather but Vegata is having none of it.

Face is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Vegata sees it coming and defends easily.
Face seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Vegata does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Face tries to pass to full mount but Vegata defends it.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Vegata regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Face.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Antonio Vegata showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Face's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Face is defended easily by Vegata.
Vegata tries to close the distance and clinch but Face swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Face.
Face backing away here, and Vegata unleashes a leg kick that just misses.
Vegata tries to close the distance and clinch up but Face swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Face drops down looking for a counter takedown but Vegata sprawls and moves away.

Face drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Vegata gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Face can't get the takedown.
Vegata misses with a knee to the head.
Face tries for a takedown. No joy.
Face avoiding damage as Vegata throws knees to the body.
Vegata has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Face gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Vegata regains guard.
Face postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Face drops back, looking for a kneebar! Vegata looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Vegata looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Vegata!

Vegata remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

A lull in the action here as Vegata stalls from top position.
Face wants to control but Vegata postures up.
Vegata remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Face is trying to maintain the position but Vegata is very close to passing his half guard.
Vegata content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Antonio Vegata comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Vegata winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
