PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rory Wilson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lyle Frederick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Frederick has chosen Peace Sells as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rory Wilson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lyle Frederick!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Dillan Fox and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Frederick wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Wilson has him pressed against the cage.
Frederick looking to stall.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Wilson takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Frederick wants to break free but Wilson has control.
Frederick lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Wilson backwards.

Wilson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Frederick lands with a kick to the temple. Wilson shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"


Wilson is rocked!
Frederick shoots in but Wilson avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Oh Wilson is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Wilson moves into the clinch.
Wilson drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Frederick gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Wilson blocking some punches.
Wilson tries for a takedown. No joy.
Frederick scores with a shot to the side of Wilson's head.
Wilson stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Wilson tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rory Wilson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nice body punch from Frederick - that landed with a thud.
Frederick wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Frederick tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Wilson just stands there and leans against the cage.
Wilson seems to have got his legs back now.
Wilson is trying to break free.

Frederick pulls guard.

Wilson wants to stand but Frederick is controlling his posture from full guard.
Wilson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Frederick trying to keep a closed guard but Wilson is proving a slippery customer.
Frederick might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Wilson kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Frederick wants to stand but Wilson is controlling the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Wilson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Wilson is breathing heavily.
Wilson advances to full mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wilson goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Frederick turns into him and now he's in Wilson's guard.

Wilson looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Frederick puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Wilson is staying active underneath Frederick, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Wilson is not content to let Frederick control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Wilson misses the shot to the body.
Frederick darts in trying to clinch

and Wilson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Frederick won't be happy with that.
Frederick manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Frederick is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Frederick tries to pass the half guard into mount. Wilson knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Wilson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Wilson throws a right hand that Frederick ducks under and follows up with a left that Frederick also avoids with ease.
Nice takedown defense from Frederick. No joy for Wilson on that attempt.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Frederick is looking to control Wilson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Frederick avoid being mounted?

Rory Wilson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The fight stays on the outside here - Frederick looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Frederick tries to clinch but Wilson is having none of it.

Wilson's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Frederick wants to control but Wilson is keeping busy.
Wilson is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rory Wilson dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Frederick is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Wilson wants to control from the top but Frederick keeps moving.

Frederick swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Wilson goes for a takedown in the clinch but Frederick prevents it.
Wilson is pressed up against the cage. Frederick has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Wilson down to the mat. Wilson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Wilson is trying to trip Frederick. He has hold of a leg but Frederick is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Wilson persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Wilson stands and steps away. Frederick gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

and Wilson holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Frederick is trying to stall.

Frederick has had enough of the clinch but Wilson keeps him there for the moment.

Wilson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Rory Wilson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Frederick won't allow Wilson to pass to mount.

Wilson is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Wilson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Frederick doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Wilson.

Rory Wilson showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Wilson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
