PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Swanson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kabal Labak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Swanson kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is The Devil You Know. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, John Swanson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kabal Labak!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Paulsen Ambrosius and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Swanson works the jab nicely.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Labak has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Labak avoids a kick to the body.

Labak avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Swanson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Labak was well out of range. Poor timing from Swanson.

It looks like John Swanson has been cut.
Swanson has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Hangar 18 in the buildup to the fight.
Swanson takes a shot to the body in his stride.
A chopping leg kick lands by Swanson.

Swanson sets himself, and Labak steps forward looking for the clinch! Swanson avoids it this time.

Labak tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Swanson defends well and Labak ends up having to push Swanson into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Swanson throws a hook to the side of Labak's head but Labak sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Labak closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Swanson to the mat! Swanson manages to get full guard.

Swanson pushes Labak off and scrambles back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Swanson takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Labak throws a front kick aimed at Swanson's knee but Swanson avoids it well.

As Labak backs away, Swanson returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.

and Labak makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Labak looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Swanson on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Swanson tries to sprawl but Labak drives through with a takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Swanson is looking for a sweep. Labak is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Labak won't allow Swanson to pass to mount.

Labak has his hands clasped together around Swanson's back. He's all about the action.
Swanson working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Labak is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Swanson's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Swanson's back!

Swanson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Labak is working away from the top position though.
Labak looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Swanson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Crunch! Labak slams his shin into Swanson's torso.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Swanson lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Labak has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Labak and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Labak manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Swanson on his heels. He'll look to pass Swanson's guard now, I'm sure.

Labak has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Swanson to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Labak is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Swanson pulls down on the head and he's put Labak to sleep! This one is all over!

John Swanson was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
