PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matt Freeman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrick Kenzie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Patrick Kenzie told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 20 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matt Freeman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 46 - 29 - 5, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Patrick Kenzie!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Paulo Santos and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Freeman goes for a double leg but Kenzie avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Kenzie continues to drive forward.
It seemed like Kenzie was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Freeman is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Kenzie! But no joy.
Kenzie throws a right hand that Freeman ducks under and follows up with a left that Freeman also avoids with ease.
Freeman went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Freeman takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Freeman slips a jab from Kenzie.
Nice sprawl there from Kenzie as Freeman shoots in.
Kenzie fails to land with a series of punches.
Freeman seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Kenzie gets caught napping as Freeman dives in and scores a takedown. Kenzie manages to retain guard.
Freeman wants to control from the top but Kenzie keeps moving.
Freeman won't allow Kenzie to sweep him here.
Kenzie not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Freeman passes into half guard.

Kenzie is looking to improve his position.

Freeman seems to be working for a kimura but Kenzie defends the submission attempt.
Kenzie keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Freeman is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Kenzie has managed to free his arm - good work.
Kenzie tries to get to full guard but Freeman has control of the leg.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Kenzie wants to get back to full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kenzie tries to close the distance and clinch but Freeman swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Freeman is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
No luck for Freeman with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matt Freeman. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kenzie throws out a counter right but Freeman avoids it with no problem.
Kenzie throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Kenzie wants to improve his position but Freeman is controlling well.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Freeman throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Kenzie wants to control but Freeman is keeping busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Patrick Kenzie will probably get the nod.

Kenzie looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Kenzie scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

and Freeman counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kenzie won't be happy with that.
Kenzie avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Freeman.
Freeman in side control, just content to control the action for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Freeman postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
You can see the frustration on Kenzie's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Matt Freeman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Freeman is really struggling to control Kenzie but he's trying to hold on to the position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Freeman wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kenzie, who protects the arm well.
Freeman wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kenzie keeps working.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Kenzie throws a looping overhand right but Freeman ducks down to avoid it.
Kenzie ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Freeman moves away.
A left lands for Kenzie.
Kenzie misses the shot to the body.
It appears Freeman was looking to counter with a kick there.
Kenzie is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Freeman has Kenzie up against the cage in a clinch.

Kenzie manages to break the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kenzie throws a jab but it's blocked by Freeman.
Kenzie rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Freeman counters with a crisp one two that drops Kenzie! Freeman thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Kenzie to his feet! Kenzie is in big trouble!


Kenzie is rocked!
Freeman and Kenzie are patiently standing in front of each other looking for an opening. Freeman throws a head kick. It's landed, knocking Kenzie into next week! Ooooh that was huge! Freeman knows it - he's on the cage flexing is biceps. That's a bit weird considering he won by kick but whatever.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Matt Freeman!
