PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Erik Meen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adam Khaliev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Khaliev has chosen T-Wayne - Nasty Freestyle as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Erik Meen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Adam Khaliev!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Jonathan Paton and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khaliev swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Khaliev avoids the body shot from Meen.
Khaliev avoids a punch combination nicely.
Khaliev tries to counter with a clinch but Meen shakes him off and moves away.
Meen tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Khaliev dives in and scores a takedown into Meen's guard.

Meen scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Meen throws a sloppy head kick and Khaliev moves out of range easily.
Khaliev scores with the left hand. Meen knows he should have avoided that one.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Meen slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Meen walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Khaliev tries to close the distance and clinch up but Meen swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Meen tries a head kick but it misses.
Khaliev lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.


It looks like Erik Meen has been cut.
Meen throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Khaliev rushes Meen and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Khaliev tries to pull guard but Meen forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Khaliev tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Meen smiles and moves away.
A head kick misses from Meen.
Khaliev with the counter takedown but Meen avoids it easily.
Meen drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
The fighters circling - Khaliev throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Khaliev moves in looking to clinch but Meen pushes him off.
Khaliev doesn't manage to clinch there - Meen circles away.
Meen swats away the attempt to clinch by Khaliev.
Khaliev fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Khaliev lands with a right hand.

Meen gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Meen slows down the pace here.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Meen.
Meen pushes Khaliev back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Khaliev throws a right hand that Meen ducks under and follows up with a left that Meen also avoids with ease.

Meen plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Meen displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Khaliev throws out the jab.

and Meen counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Meen is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Meen lands with a hook. Khaliev tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Khaliev looks to land a combination but Meen avoids it well.
Khaliev rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Meen moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Meen paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
No luck for Khaliev with that takedown attempt.
Meen is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Khaliev lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Erik Meen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Meen lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Khaliev circles away quickly and effectively.

Meen throws a hook to the side of Khaliev's head but Khaliev sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Khaliev misses with a hook.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

A looping hook to the body misses from Meen. Khaliev does a little dance to reset his feet.
Khaliev tries to move into range but Meen moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Meen has Khaliev up against the cage in a clinch.

Khaliev jumps guard but Meen stands there with Khaliev around his waist. Khaliev gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Khaliev is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Meen to keep the fight standing.

Khaliev jumps guard but Meen turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Khaliev looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Meen has picked Khaliev up and slammed him! Khaliev can't keep hold of the triangle and Meen manages to pass to side control!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Meen avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Khaliev isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Meen stacks Khaliev on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Meen!
Meen will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Meen stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Meen fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Khaliev, pushing him back against the cage.

Meen decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Khaliev, up you get!
Khaliev drops his hands momentarily and Meen takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Khaliev jabs Meen right on the nose. Meen blinks but takes it well.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Meen avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Meen is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Khaliev uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Meen.
Khaliev tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Meen manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Khaliev throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Khaliev has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Meen avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Meen lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Meen lands a nice elbow.
Meen is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Khaliev can do to turn this around?

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Khaliev lands with an uppercut that bounces Meen off the cage and back into range.
Meen connects with a right hand. Khaliev shakes it off.
Meen getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Khaliev takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Horrible takedown attempt by Khaliev or perhaps it was just good defense by Meen, which made it look bad.
Meen slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Khaliev motions for Meen to come forward. Khaliev throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Khaliev is still on wobbly legs! Can Meen finish him?
Meen batters Khaliev with a massive right followed by a huge left! Khaliev is out on his feet looking like a zombie as Meen lands a final crushing right hand to drop Khaliev to the mat with a gruesome thud! Meen is running around like a mad man after that fight and for good reason!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:35 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Erik Meen!
During a confident post fight interview, Erik Meen thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
