PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Riley Porter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Sable (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jon Sable will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Riley Porter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jon Sable!
The judges for this bout are Darius Henderson, Steve Erwin and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
That kick from Porter tenderised Sable's leg. Sable is trying to keep his angry face on.
Porter tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Sable with the counter takedown but Porter avoids it easily.
Sable fails in his attempt to clinch.

Sable gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Sable breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Sable tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Porter paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Sable looks to throw a body kick
and Porter counters with a left to the body.
Sable tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Sable clinches up with Porter and pushes him back against the cage.
Sable using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Porter has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Porter dodges an elbow strike from Sable.
Sable tries for a takedown. No joy.
Sable unloads a knee to the mid-section. Porter lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Porter pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A combination from Sable does no damage.

Sable closes the distance and pushes Porter back into the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sable misses with a knee strike.

Porter breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Sable throws a lazy head kick

and Porter counters by moving into the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sable throws a knee to the head but misses.
Porter has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Sable is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Sable with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Sable wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Porter has him pressed against the cage.

Porter lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Porter keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Porter missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Porter is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Porter is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Sable has managed to free his arm - good work.

Porter decides to return to a standing position.
Porter pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Sable fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Porter closes the distance and pushes Sable back into the cage.
Sable with an attempt at a knee that misses.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sable is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Porter is defending well.
Sable scores with a shot to the side of Porter's head.
Sable creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Porter has had enough of the clinch but Sable keeps him there for the moment.
Sable trying to land knees to the body.

Porter successfully pulls guard.
Porter has Sable pulled in close to control his posture.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sable won't allow Porter to sweep him here.

Porter is looking for a triangle here but Sable uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Sable has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Porter gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Porter pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Riley Porter will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Porter has a takedown stuffed.

Porter pushes Sable up against the cage in a clinch.
Porter goes for a takedown in the clinch but Sable prevents it.
Sable just leaning against Porter, taking a breather.
Sable tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Sable breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Sable moves to clinch but Porter breaks away

and Porter counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Porter controlling the pace.
Porter trying to mount his opponent but Sable defends it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sable looks like he's trying to stand up.
Sable is trying to control but Porter passes into side control!
Sable tries to improve position but can't.
Porter cracks Sable with a big right hand but Sable just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
You can see the frustration on Sable's face as Porter controls the position.
Porter lands an elbow.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Porter wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sable keeps working.
Sable being controlled for a moment.
Porter trying to control the position but Sable is working away.
Porter throws an elbow but Sable slips to the side and avoids it well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Porter taking a breather here.

Porter decides to stand up, so the ref orders Sable to his feet.

Porter drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Sable wants to control but Porter postures up.
Porter prevents Sable from escaping the position.
Porter throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sable wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Porter slows the pace down.
Sable is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Porter decides to stand back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Sable gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Porter to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Sable is breathing heavily.
Porter controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Riley Porter dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Sable tries to close the distance and clinch up but Porter swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Sable forces Porter back against the cage and clinches.
Sable is trying to break the clinch but Porter has him pressed against the cage.
Porter wants to break free but Sable has control.
Sable displaying some good clinch control by pressing Porter up against the cage.
Porter blocks an uppercut.
Sable drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Porter gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Porter avoiding damage as Sable throws knees to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A battle for position here, against the cage.

Sable manages to break the clinch.
Porter swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Sable forces Porter back against the cage and clinches.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Sable as Porter tries to tie him up.
Sable misses with a knee to the head.
Sable prevents a takedown attempt there.
Sable lands with a light punch inside.
Sable lands a knee to the head.
Sable tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Porter has Sable pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Sable manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Porter escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Sable wants to clinch but Porter slips to the side

and Porter counters with a single leg into guard. Sable didn't expect that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sable takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Porter is pushing down on Sable's leg trying to pass to half guard. Sable is fighting to maintain full guard but Porter has managed to sneak the leg through.
Porter is controlling the pace.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Riley Porter overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Porter's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Porter is nestled in close to Sable, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Still in half guard, Porter seems content to control.
Sable trying to control here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Porter stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Sable to get to his feet.

Sable moves into range and clinches up with Porter.
Sable prevents a body shot from Porter.

Porter jumps into guard, dragging Sable to the mat.

Porter has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Sable has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Porter decides to pull guard.
Porter looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sable is one step ahead there.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sable wants to control from the top but Porter keeps moving.

And that's the end of the fight!
Riley Porter showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Porter, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
