PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dan Iron (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Boris Em (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dan Iron!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Boris Em!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Santiago Holmes and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Iron throws a sloppy head kick

and Em counters with a nice double leg into side control. Iron won't be happy with that.

Iron throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Iron gets a takedown into half guard.
Iron knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Em on the ground.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Em is looking to control Iron's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Em avoid being mounted?
Em wants to get back to full guard.
Iron not doing much here.
Iron missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Em works his way to full guard. Good work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Em working a defensive guard here.
Em looks winded!
Iron missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Iron trying to control the position from guard on top but Em is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Iron is stalling in the full guard.
Iron chips away with some ground and pound.
Iron looking to pass the guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Iron decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Em gets caught flat footed, as Iron shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Iron trying to control but Em is working from the bottom.
Em trying to keep a closed guard but Iron is proving a slippery customer.

Em is looking for a triangle but Iron pushes his legs off easily.
Iron in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Iron showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Em is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Iron got a little sloppy there for a moment and Em has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Iron has managed to get both his arms back between Em's legs - danger averted.
Iron throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Em works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Iron seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Iron has taken the fight to the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Iron breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Iron has Em up against the cage in a clinch.

Iron successfully pulls guard.

Iron pushes Em off and gets back to his feet.

Iron has taken the fight to the clinch.

Iron is trying to trip Em. He has hold of a leg but Em is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Iron persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Iron is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Iron dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Iron throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Em enables Iron to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Em manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Em throws his legs up looking for a submission but Iron uses it to pass to side control.
Iron trying to control the position but Em is working away.
Iron is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Em can do to turn this around?
Iron throws a strike aimed at the side of Em's head but Em avoids it well.
Em is not content to let Iron control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Iron is really struggling to control Em but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Iron working the ground and pound but Em is defending the strikes.
Em is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Em wants to control but Iron postures up.
Em gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Iron not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Em is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Em is trying to maintain the position but Iron is very close to passing his half guard.
Iron is controlling the pace.
Em is refusing to be controlled, as Iron sits in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Iron throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Em tries to get to full guard but Iron has control of the leg.
Em wants to sweep but Iron has passed to side control!
Iron working away.
You can see the frustration on Em's face as Iron controls the position.
Iron tries to advance to mount but can't.
Iron lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Iron advances nicely into full mount.
Iron lands a couple of good shots and Em has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
You can see the frustration on Em's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Iron's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
I really don't envy Em right now.

Iron is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
What can Em do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Iron is not going to allow Em to sit and survive in this position.
Iron controls the position.

Em showing good submission defense here.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Iron's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Iron dominated that second round.
That's time! Iron's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Em gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Iron.

Iron is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Em's half guard.

Iron decides to stand up.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Em drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Iron gets the underhooks and prevents it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Em changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Iron fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Em takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Iron decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Iron controlling the action here.
Em blocking the ground and pound attempt from Iron.

Iron's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Em wants to improve his position but Iron is controlling well.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Iron in particular looking to stall.
Further stalling from Iron.

Iron is looking for a kimura but Em is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Iron to get the leverage.
Em is trying to control but Iron passes into side control!
Em trying his best to control but Iron has mounted him.
Em tries to hold on but Iron postures up.
Iron throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Em because Iron loaded up on that one.

Iron can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Em is looking to escape.
Em is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Iron sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Iron looking to ground and pound but Em is blocking nicely.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Iron get's back to his feet.

Iron shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Iron pushing down on Em's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Iron sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Em defending well though.

Iron looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Em is looking to escape.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dan Iron showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Iron has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
