Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rawrl Castro! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pierre Labont! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Gregory Folan and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Labont looks for a takedown but Castro sprawls well. Castro rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Labont moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Labont moves away from the strike by Castro. Castro scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Castro connects with a high kick. A swing and a miss from Castro. A left and a right from Castro both land. Nice combination. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. A solid leg kick lands there for Castro.
Castro lands a high kick to the side of Labont's head that stuns him and send him tumbling down to the canvas! Castro dives into guard, looking to finish.
Labont is rocked!
It looks like Pierre Labont has been cut. Castro will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Labont has his foot on Castro's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Castro works his way back into a safe position though. Castro pushes down on Labont's leg and manages to get into half guard. Labont looks gassed! Castro is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Labont sees it coming and defends easily. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Castro is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Castro cracks Labont with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Castro working for a guillotine from mount but Labont is in no mood to give up. We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Labont has eaten all the pies!
That's one minute gone in the round. Castro punching from mount but Labont doing a good job of avoiding damage. Castro unloads with some shots from mount but Labont bucks and avoids them well.
Labont is trying to escape the mount.
Labont is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Castro landing punches. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. A nice elbow there by Castro. Castro lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Castro landing strikes from the mount. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! This has been an exciting period of action! Castro postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Labont in real trouble here! The ref calls for Labont to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:04 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rawrl Castro!
