Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kit Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Michael The Hawk!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Fedor Mirinova and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson tries to close the distance and clinch up but The Hawk swats him away and circles back towards the center.

The Hawk closes the distance and pushes Johnson back into the cage.
Johnson lands a damaging elbow.
The Hawk jumps guard but Johnson turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
The Hawk tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
The Hawk lands with a short head shot on the inside.

Johnson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The Hawk gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Johnson counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

The Hawk has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Johnson is on him like a limpet, forcing The Hawk back against the cage.

Johnson manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. The Hawk keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Johnson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
The Hawk closes this distance looking for a takedown but Johnson circles away.

and Johnson counters with a series of strikes. The Hawk will be more careful next time no doubt.

We've been hearing reports that Johnson has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Johnson gets to his feet - The Hawk follows without any prompting.

The Hawk is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Johnson asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Johnson is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down The Hawk's shoulder. That is not cool.

Johnson stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Johnson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. The Hawk tries to avoid it but Johnson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag The Hawk to the ground. The Hawk escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Johnson counters with a takedown into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Johnson has hold of one of The Hawk's legs. The Hawk is fighting the takedown attempt but Johnson gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Johnson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The Hawk can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Johnson controls the pace.

Michael The Hawk seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Johnson fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
The Hawk shoots in looking for a takedown. Johnson tries to sprawl out of it but The Hawk keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Johnson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Johnson throws a big counter combination but The Hawk scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Johnson slaps away a takedown attempt from The Hawk, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Johnson goes for a double leg but The Hawk avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as The Hawk continues to drive forward.

Johnson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down The Hawk for as long as he can get away with.
Johnson has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Johnson cracks The Hawk with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
