Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Frank Greene! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Anthony Murphy! The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Skip Squint and Ben Watson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Murphy lands a jab to the head.
Murphy throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. Greene throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Murphy was covering up waiting for the punch and Greene finishes the takedown easily into guard. Murphy wants to stand up but Greene is controlling him. Greene is working Murphy over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Greene cracks Murphy with a solid left hand. Greene is in close to Murphy's body, working some short punches and elbows. Greene working some strikes from top position. Murphy has momentary wrist control but Greene slips an elbow through the middle. Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground! Greene connects with a couple of short punches. Murphy is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Greene dives into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Greene scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Murphy to see if he's OK. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Murphy felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Greene has hold of Murphy's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Murphy tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Greene cranks the arm and Murphy screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Murphy, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Frank Greene!
