Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Theo Roberts! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Daniel De Souza! The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Phil Schofield and Andrew Berry.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Roberts goes for a double leg but De Souza avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as De Souza continues to drive forward. Roberts closes the distance and clinches up with De Souza, looking for a takedown. Roberts pushes De Souza against the cage but De Souza circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. De Souza clinches with his opponent.
De Souza is working for takedown but Roberts is calmly controlling the position for now. De Souza prevents Roberts from breaking the clinch. De Souza breaks from the clinch.
De Souza shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Roberts is trying to defend but De Souza finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Roberts has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but De Souza is on him like a limpet, forcing Roberts back against the cage. Roberts missing with knees to the body.
De Souza misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Roberts.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Roberts jumps guard but De Souza turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Theo Roberts. That's going to take a lot out of him. De Souza lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. De Souza pulls guard. Roberts has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Roberts throws a big elbow that misses. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as De Souza holds on and takes a little breather. Roberts throwing strikes from guard but De Souza blocks nicely. Roberts wants to stand but De Souza is controlling his posture from full guard. Roberts wants to control from the top but De Souza keeps moving.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. De Souza working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Roberts doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but De Souza is tightening it up a little... Roberts has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Roberts reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Roberts taps out! Nice BJJ there by De Souza!
