Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Emmanuel Jefferson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Oscar De La Hoya !
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Daniel Franklin and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

De La Hoya shoots in and gets a takedown into Jefferson's guard.

Jefferson is working an open guard so De La Hoya takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Oscar De La Hoya seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jefferson moves in looking to clinch but De La Hoya pushes him off.

De La Hoya looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Jefferson!

De La Hoya postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
De La Hoya lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Jefferson down.
De La Hoya creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Jefferson sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
De La Hoya takes a little break here. Jefferson wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
De La Hoya connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Jefferson some visible discomfort.

De La Hoya wants to control but Jefferson is keeping him busy.

De La Hoya goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Jefferson rolls with the submission and now he's on top in De La Hoya 's guard! Nice work there by Jefferson!

Jefferson working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

De La Hoya pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

De La Hoya bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Jefferson is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jefferson won't allow De La Hoya to pass to mount.
Jefferson misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Jefferson is not content to let De La Hoya control the position.
De La Hoya wants to pass the guard but Jefferson is defending well.

De La Hoya stalling away here and it's allowed Jefferson to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Jefferson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. De La Hoya gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Jefferson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
De La Hoya is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Jefferson has a closed guard, preventing De La Hoya from standing up.

De La Hoya wants to get up but he can't break Jefferson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Jefferson is looking for a triangle but De La Hoya pushes his legs off easily.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

De La Hoya throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jefferson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
De La Hoya controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

De La Hoya sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Jefferson doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! De La Hoya paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Jefferson - great work!
