PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jack Burton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kira Miyata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Miyata comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Boa - Energetic kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Jack Burton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kira Miyata!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Burton shoots in and gets a takedown into Miyata's guard.
Miyata not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Miyata is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Burton trying to control but Miyata postures up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Burton is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Miyata's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Miyata's back!

Miyata has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Burton.
Burton misses with an elbow to the head.

Miyata is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Burton is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Burton gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Burton gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Burton apologises and we restart here on the feet.

It appears Burton was looking to counter with a kick there.
Miyata lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Miyata has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Burton is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Horrible takedown attempt by Miyata or perhaps it was just good defense by Burton, which made it look bad.
Burton throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Miyata throws a series of punches but Burton avoids them all with ease.
Miyata keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Miyata is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Burton.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Miyata bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Burton fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Miyata is out of range.

Burton fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Miyata avoids it really well and circles away.

Burton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Miyata swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Miyata has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Burton has passed into side control.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Burton works his foot free and advances to mount.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jack Burton will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Miyata throws an overhand right that lands on Burton's shoulder, as Burton tries to avoid the shot.

Burton fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Miyata throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Burton on the side of the head.

Miyata changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Burton looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jack Burton overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Miyata is looking for a kimura but Burton is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Miyata to get the leverage.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Burton seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

and Burton counters by moving into the clinch.
Burton tries to work over Miyata's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Burton drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Miyata gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Burton.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Burton. That's going to take a lot out of him.

A short body shot lands from Burton as the two fighters clinch.
Burton tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Burton lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Miyata is pushing Burton up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Burton has Miyata pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Miyata manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Miyata has Burton pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Miyata pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Burton tumbling to the mat - Miyata dives into Burton's guard.

I think Miyata has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
