Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mercury Hayes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Anthony Johnson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mercury Hayes! The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Joseph Jones and John Roberts.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
It looks like Mercury Hayes has been cut. Hayes moves out of range as Johnson strikes. Johnson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hayes. Hayes tries to clinch up. Hayes moves into the clinch. Hayes stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Hayes continues to stall. The referee tells him to work or he's going to break them up. Hayes's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A thudding body kick lands there by Johnson!
Johnson fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Hayes on the side of the head. Johnson uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Hayes. Anthony Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Johnson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Johnson has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Hayes eats them both and turns towards Johnson to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Johnson swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Hayes counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Hayes is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Johnson pulls him back up using the underhooks. Johnson breaks from the clinch.
Johnson connects with a body shot. Anthony Johnson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Hayes shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Johnson as he jumps to the side. Anthony Johnson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mercury Hayes. A big right from Hayes misses. Johnson connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. A combination from Johnson does no damage. Hayes misses with a takedown and Johnson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
That has opened up Mercury Hayes's cut even more.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Johnson slaps away a takedown attempt from Hayes, before circling back to the center of the mat. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Hayes doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Hayes darts in looking for a takedown but Johnson gets double underhooks and turns Hayes into the cage. Hayes moves out of range of the strikes. Hayes tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Hayes slips under a jab. Johnson lands with an overhand left. Johnson throws a big shot that misses. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Hayes! But no joy. Johnson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Hayes manages to avoid it. Hayes clinches with his opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hayes tries to pull guard but Johnson forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Johnson working hard to break the clinch. Johnson has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. A frustrated look appears on Johnson's face as he tries to break the clinch. Johnson breaks the clinch.
A right-left combo lands from Johnson. A slapping leg kick lands for Johnson.
Johnson misses with a looping right. Johnson misses with a looping left. Johnson scores with a decent looking hook. Hayes misses with a takedown attempt - Johnson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hayes fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Johnson sprawls well initially but Hayes persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Hayes stops Johnson from getting back to his feet.
Hayes wants to work for an arm triangle but Johnson is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Hayes is working for a kimura but Johnson is defending it quite comfortably.
Johnson is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Hayes scores with a couple of nice shots. Johnson is defending against the submission attempts here by Hayes.

Anthony Johnson dominated that round. The cut man is working on Mercury Hayes's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Hayes shoots in for a takedown but Johnson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Johnson swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect. Johnson misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hayes.
