PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Aaron Burgess (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shunte Woods (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Aaron Burgess!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Shunte Woods!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Daniel Blasius and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burgess avoids a punch combination nicely.
Woods fails with the takedown
and Burgess counters with a slapping leg kick.
Burgess gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Woods misses with a two punch combination.

Woods moves into the clinch.
Burgess is looking for a takedown.
Burgess drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Woods gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Burgess wants to take the fight to the mat but Woods manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Aaron Burgess. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Woods pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Woods throws a big shot that misses.
Woods with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Woods dives in for a single leg takedown but Burgess sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Woods clinches.

Woods breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Woods throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Burgess drives through and clinches with Woods against the cage.

Woods breaks from the clinch.
Burgess blocks a head kick by Woods.

Burgess rushes Woods and presses him up against the cage.
Burgess fails to pull the fight into his guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Burgess tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Woods just stands there and leans against the cage.
Burgess tries for a takedown. No joy.

Woods gets control of Burgess's arms and successfully pulls guard. Woods will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Burgess stands up and waves to Woods to follow him.

Woods rushes Burgess and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Woods pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Burgess doesn't manage to clinch there - Woods circles away.
Burgess tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Woods manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Woods rushes Burgess and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Burgess has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Woods uses from the top position.
Woods pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Burgess is keeping the position for now.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Woods's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Burgess scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Woods closes the distance and clinches up with Burgess, looking for a takedown. Woods pushes Burgess against the cage but Burgess circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Woods moves into range and clinches up with Burgess.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Woods is trying to trip Burgess. He has hold of a leg but Burgess is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Woods persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Burgess is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Burgess looking for a sweep. Not yet Burgess, not yet.
Woods pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Burgess is keeping the position for now.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Woods working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Burgess's head.
Burgess looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Woods not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Burgess looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Woods passes into half guard.
Burgess is breathing heavily.

Woods is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shunte Woods dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



The fight moves into the clinch position.
Burgess tries to pull guard but Woods forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Burgess drops down looking for an ankle pick but Woods pulls his leg out and moves away.
Woods misses with a combination
and Burgess counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Burgess is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
The fight stays on the outside here - Burgess looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nice takedown defense from Burgess. No joy for Woods on that attempt.
Left hook, right uppercut from Woods.


Burgess is rocked!
Burgess pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Oh Burgess is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Look low, kick high! Woods uses the oldest trick in the book to send Burgess tumbling to the canvas, in a truly brutal knockout! Woods is absolutely delighted - when Burgess wakes up, I doubt he'll be quite so happy!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Shunte Woods!
