PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ching Ching (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vinicius Costa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ching Ching!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Vinicius Costa!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Phil Schofield and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Costa throws a sloppy head kick
enabling Ching to counter with a crisp jab.
Costa tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Ching tried to score with a low kick but Costa checks it.
Ching misses with an uppercut. Costa saw that one coming.
Ching wants to land a leg kick but Costa is out of range.
Costa tries a quick counter leg kick but Ching is wise to it.
Ching looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Costa. Ching shrugs it off though.
Ching just misses with a punch to the body.
Costa is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.
Costa slips under a jab from Ching.
Costa lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Costa bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Costa gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Costa tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Costa is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Ching controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Costa is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Ching is defending against the submission attempts here by Costa.
Ching moves into full guard.

Ching escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Costa gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Costa looking to sit in guard and control but Ching gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Ching slips nicely into half guard.
Ching is keen to just control but Costa is a slippery customer.
Costa tries to get to full guard but Ching has control of the leg.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Ching is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Costa doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Ching.
Ching lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Costa has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at English Top Team - THE Hybrid Gym (11 ELITE ). Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Costa is defending against the submission attempts here by Ching.

Ching seems to be working for a kimura but Costa defends the submission attempt.
Costa has a hand on Ching's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Ching takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ching trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Costa slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Ching lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Ching lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Costa backwards.

Costa pulls guard successfully.
Ching is pushing down on Costa's leg trying to pass to half guard. Costa is fighting to maintain full guard but Ching has managed to sneak the leg through.

Ching Ching overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Ching wants to pass to mount but Costa is defending the position.
Ching lands with a punch from half guard.

Ching wants to control but Costa is keeping him busy.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ching is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Ching is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Ching is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Costa can do to turn this around?

Ching is working for an americana but Costa has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Ching was thinking about the submission.

Costa pulls Ching in to control the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ching frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Ching is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Costa is surviving well by controlling Ching's body position as best he can.
Costa sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Costa actively working from the bottom here.
Costa is not content to let Ching control the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Costa has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ching is working away from the top position though.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Ching misses with an uppercut.
Costa looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Ching throws the kick towards the body but Costa avoids it.
Ching throws a jab but it's blocked by Costa.

Ching closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Ching lands a takedown into guard.

Costa working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ching doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ching manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Ching works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Ching is looking for a kimura but Costa is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ching to get the leverage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Costa is trying to maintain the position but Ching is very close to passing his half guard.

Ching works his foot free and advances to mount.

Ching goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Costa turns into him and now he's in Ching's guard.

Ching keeping moving, preventing Costa from controlling successfully.

Ching is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Costa defends well.
Costa sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Ching's guard.
Ching wants to get back to full guard but Costa has passed into side control.
Ching is not content to let Costa control the position.
You can see the frustration on Ching's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Ching Ching showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Ching has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
