PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nathan Dillard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sola Drum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Nathan Dillard! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Sola Drum! The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Steven Brown and James Atkins.

Drum rushes Dillard and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Drum looking to slow down the pace here. Dillard is trying to pull guard but Drum has him pressed against the cage. Dillard tries to pull guard but Drum won't allow it.
Drum has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Dillard after a bit of a struggle. Dillard slowing the pace effectively.
Dillard manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Dillard looking to hit a scissor sweep but Drum is one step ahead there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Dillard lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Dillard sitting in guard here, content to control. Drum really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dillard. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Drum is trying to keep Dillard in close.
Drum wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Dillard is now in half guard. Drum trying to hold on to Dillard's head to control him but Dillard postures up.

Drum is in a horrible position here. Dillard smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Dillard goes for an armbar but Drum turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Drum.

Dillard chips away with some ground and pound. Dillard not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Drum is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Dillard is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Dillard stands up from guard. Let's bang! Dillard throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Dillard fails to land the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nathan Dillard. That's going to take a lot out of him. Dillard goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Drum is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Dillard throws a big counter combination but Drum scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Dillard changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Drum tries to avoid it but Dillard manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Drum to the ground. Drum escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Drum is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Nathan Dillard dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Dillard misses with a jab, cross combination.
Drum drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Dillard defends it well. Drum wants to clinch. Drum changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dillard tries to avoid it but Drum manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dillard to the ground. Dillard escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Drum fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Dillard is looking for a counter combo. Dillard tries for a takedown but Drum circles away easily
and Drum counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Drum is breathing heavily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Dillard tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Drum just stands there and leans against the cage. Drum can't get the takedown.
Nathan Dillard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sola Drum. Dillard drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Drum gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Dillard decides to pull guard.

Drum wants to control from the top but Dillard keeps moving. Dillard wants to sweep here but Drum controlling him for the moment. Drum being controlled here momentarily.

You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Dillard bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Drum's guard.

Dillard drops back looking for a leg! Drum is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Drum manages to kick Dillard off! Dillard jumps back into Drum's guard. Dillard slips nicely into half guard. Drum is trying to stand back up but Dillard is controlling him

Dillard is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Dillard is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Drum can do to turn this around? Dillard scoring with strikes to the body and head.

Dillard decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Dillard closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Drum to the mat! Drum manages to get full guard. Dillard pushing down on Drum's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Dillard will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Dillard wants to work for an arm triangle but Drum is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dillard in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Drum tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Dillard!
