PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dana Woodard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy Elce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Dana Woodard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Tommy Elce!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Colin Fotheringham and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Elce dives in and grabs Woodard's left leg, looking for a takedown. Woodard pushes down on Elce's head and hops out.
Woodard tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Woodard tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Elce wants to clinch.
Woodard could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Woodard gets a takedown into half guard.
Woodard knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Elce on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Elce works his way to full guard. Good work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Elce wants to get back to his feet but Woodard is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Elce is trying to control the position but Woodard postures up.

Elce looking for a guillotine here but Woodard defends easily.
Woodard has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Elce manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Woodard manages to get himself to full guard.

Woodard is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Woodard avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Woodard has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Elce has passed into side control.
Woodard tries to bench press Elce off him but Elce keeps the position.
Elce is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Woodard's shoulder. That is not cool.
Woodard is looking for a sweep.
Elce moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Woodard tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Elce wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Elce has control of an arm but Woodard manages to advance to Elce's back!
Elce wants to escape the position.
Woodard avoiding Elce 's attempts to control his hands.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Woodard keeps control of the position as Elce tries to break free.
Elce wants to get back to his feet.
I really don't envy Elce right now.
Elce keeps trying to improve his position.
Woodard throwing wild punches that miss their target.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Woodard controls the action.
Woodard scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.

Woodard is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Elce knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Elce for a finish.
You can see the frustration on Elce's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Elce manages to reverse the position and now he's in Woodard's guard. Nice work there by Elce.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Dana Woodard will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Woodard misses with a two punch combination.
Elce swings for the body but Woodard moves out of range.
Elce throws a right hand that Woodard ducks under and follows up with a left that Woodard also avoids with ease.
Elce throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Woodard's waist but Woodard gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Elce off to one side.
It looked like Woodard was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Woodard tries to sprawl but Elce drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Woodard desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Woodard is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Elce is trying to control the action in half guard but Woodard is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Woodard is looking to improve his position.
Elce wants to control but Woodard is keeping him busy.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Woodard is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Elce jumps into side control!
The ground and pound from Elce seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Woodard sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Woodard wants to get back to full guard.
Woodard is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Elce's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Elce's back!

Elce might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Woodard haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Woodard keeps control of the position as Elce tries to break free.

Woodard is trying to stick to Elce's back but Elce is turning into Woodard. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Woodard's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Elce.
Woodard wants to sweep here but Elce controlling him for the moment.

Elce throws a big right hand that misses.
Woodard wants to hit a switch here but Elce passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Woodard there!
Woodard tries to lock up and control but Elce gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Woodard might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Woodard is trying desperately to improve position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Elce fails to move to back control.
Elce lands a big elbow.
Woodard is squirming around, avoiding Elce's attempts to control the action.
Elce lands a heavy elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Woodard is looking to get to half guard.
Woodard taking shots to the head.
Woodard wants to control but Elce is having none of it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Elce is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Woodard can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Elce landing strikes from the mount.
Woodard manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Elce not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Elce is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Woodard!
Woodard slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Tommy Elce showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Woodard's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Elce closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Woodard quickly recovers to half guard.
Elce is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Elce not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Woodard gets full guard.
Elce has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Elce passes Woodard's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Woodard avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Elce.
Elce prevents Woodard from improving his position.

Elce wants to work for an arm triangle but Woodard is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Elce seems to be looking for submissions.
Elce takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Woodard gets full guard.
Woodard trying to keep a closed guard but Elce is proving a slippery customer.
Elce postures up and lands a big shot to Woodard's brow.
Elce won't allow Woodard to sweep him here.
Elce trying to control the position from guard on top but Woodard is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Elce stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Woodard swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Elce wants to stand but Woodard has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Woodard looking to hit a scissor sweep but Elce is one step ahead there.
Woodard wants to improve his position but instead Elce has moved into half guard.
Woodard gets back to full guard.
Woodard looking for a sweep. Not yet Woodard, not yet.
Woodard looking to control.
Elce sitting in guard here, content to control.
Elce tries to stand but Woodard is controlling from the bottom.
Elce is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Elce. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Woodard wants to sweep but no luck.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Woodard moves out of range of the body kick.
Elce doesn't manage to clinch there - Woodard circles away.
Woodard tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Elce manages to circle out of the way.

Elce successfully pulls guard.
Woodard throwing strikes but missing.
Elce wants to stand up but Woodard is controlling him.

Elce is adopting a defensive guard.
Elce wants to get back to his feet but Woodard is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Elce has control of Woodard's left arm, preventing Woodard from doing any damage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

I think Elce has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
