PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Joseph Omeruo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bust Faces (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Faces gets caught flat footed, as Omeruo shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Omeruo missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Faces preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Omeruo accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Faces controls Omeruo momentarily but Omeruo frees himself.
Omeruo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Omeruo throws a big right hand that misses.
Faces preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Faces looking to hit a scissor sweep but Omeruo is one step ahead there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Faces is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Omeruo defends well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Omeruo distracts Faces with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Omeruo stands up over Faces, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Omeruo drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Omeruo jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Omeruo is pushing down on Faces's leg trying to pass to half guard. Faces is fighting to maintain full guard but Omeruo has managed to sneak the leg through.
Omeruo looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Faces with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Faces is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Omeruo pulls his head out easily.

Omeruo is nestled in close to Faces, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Faces manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Faces tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Faces has had enough of the clinch but Omeruo keeps him there for the moment.
Omeruo lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Faces has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Omeruo avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Faces tries to break free but Omeruo pushes him back against the cage.

Omeruo has Faces pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Omeruo pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Faces tumbling to the mat - Omeruo dives into Faces's guard.

Faces has his feet on Omeruo's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Omeruo scores with a nice hook to the head.

Omeruo gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Omeruo is working Faces over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Omeruo postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Omeruo's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Faces dives in and grabs Omeruo's left leg, looking for a takedown. Omeruo pushes down on Faces's head and hops out.
Faces gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Omeruo clinches up against the cage.
Faces wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Omeruo has him pressed against the cage.

Omeruo is trying to trip Faces. He has hold of a leg but Faces is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Omeruo persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Faces uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Faces fails with a takedown attempt.

Omeruo darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Omeruo frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Omeruo has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Faces's face.
Faces is still in real trouble! Can Omeruo finish him?
Omeruo lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Faces tries to lock up and control but Omeruo gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Omeruo has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Faces's face.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Omeruo unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Faces wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Omeruo celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
