Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Edgar Bowen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anthony Pettis! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Frank Dennis and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bowen swats away the attempt to clinch by Pettis. Bowen fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Pettis, pushing him back against the cage. Bowen pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Pettis shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Pettis showed some decent athleticism there. Bowen is looking for a sweep. Pettis is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Pettis is trying to control. Bowen wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bowen works his way to full guard. Good work. Bowen looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Pettis puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Bowen wants to get back to full guard. Bowen is trying to stand up here but Pettis is controlling him well. Pettis prevents Bowen from improving his position. Bowen actively working from the bottom here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bowen manages to get to full guard.
Bowen looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Pettis has picked Bowen up and slammed him! Bowen can't keep hold of the triangle and Pettis manages to pass to side control! Pettis trying to control the position but Bowen is working away. Bowen is trying to improve his position. Pettis trying to control the action but Bowen is working from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pettis has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Bowen is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Pettis yanks on the arm and Bowen is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Pettis.
