Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rodolfo Castaneda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Micheal Bates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Micheal Bates will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Darius Henderson, Damien Edna and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bates throws a head kick that misses.
Bates has managed to clinch.
Castaneda changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Bates fights it off and pushes away nicely.

and Castaneda counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Castaneda stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bates swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Bates has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Castaneda is landing a low percentage of strikes.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

and Castaneda counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Castaneda looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Castaneda wants to pass the guard but Bates is keeping the position.
Castaneda drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Castaneda jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Castaneda stays in close to Bates's body and controls the position.
Bates wants to sweep here but Castaneda controlling him for the moment.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Castaneda seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Bates throws a series of punches but Castaneda moves out of range.
Bates tries to clinch there but Castaneda circles away.

Bates moves into the clinch.
Castaneda tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Bates just stands there and leans against the cage.
Castaneda has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Bates is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rodolfo Castaneda. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bates has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Castaneda is trying to keep an underhook but Bates manages to get the takedown into half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Castaneda's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

That was a close round but I would say that Rodolfo Castaneda will probably get the nod.
That's time! Castaneda's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Castaneda shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Bates napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Bates tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Castaneda wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Bates is looking to reverse the position.

Bates is trying to escape the position but Castaneda is controlling the position.
Castaneda has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Bates wants to control but Castaneda postures up.
Castaneda has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Bates!

This is a sustained period of stalling by Castaneda.
Bates is trying to escape the mount but Castaneda keeps good control and instead manages to take Bates's back.

Castaneda has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Bates's body.
Castaneda seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Bates for as long as he can get away with.

Bates is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Castaneda off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Castaneda has the hooks in. Bates is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Castaneda is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Bates can do to turn this around?

Castaneda throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.

Castaneda is working for a rear naked choke. Bates is not defending it well and Castaneda has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Bates refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Bates's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Rodolfo Castaneda!
