PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gunner Harris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Freddy Steel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Gunner Harris has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Gunner Harris seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gunner Harris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Freddy Steel!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Daniel Franklin and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Harris fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Steel, pushing him back against the cage.
Harris is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Steel working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Steel tries to work over Harris's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
We've been informed that Steel has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Harris is looking for a takedown.
Steel swings wildly with an uppercut but Harris uses good head movement to avoid it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Steel working aggressively here.
Steel tries to throw a body punch but Harris avoids it by throwing Steel back against the cage.

Harris is working for takedown but Steel is calmly controlling the position for now.

Harris jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Steel walks away with a smile on his face. Harris gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Harris closes the distance and pushes Steel back into the cage.

Steel tries a knee to the head but Harris blocks it.

Steel swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Steel is pressed up against the cage. Harris has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Steel down to the mat. Steel avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Steel is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Harris seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

Harris is looking to break free of the clinch but Steel has double underhooks.

Harris jumps guard but Steel stands there with Harris around his waist. Harris gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Steel tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steel leaves Harris with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Steel has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Harris takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Steel tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Harris misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Harris throws a big counter combination but Steel scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Harris darts in and clinches Steel up against the cage.
Harris wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Harris blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Harris gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Steel regains guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Steel avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Harris looking to sit in guard and control but Steel gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Steel stands up from Harris's guard - Steel perhaps looking for a knockout.
Steel misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Steel misses with a hook

and Harris counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Harris.

Harris is trying to pull guard but Steel turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Steel tries to keep at a distance but Harris has taken the fight into the clinch.
Steel lands a right hand that snaps the head of Harris backwards.
Freddy Steel is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Harris is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Steel is defending well.
Harris has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Steel is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Steel gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Harris.
Harris wants to get back to striking at distance but Steel won't allow it.

Steel lands an uppercut.
Harris fails to pull guard.

Harris's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Harris closes this distance looking for a takedown but Steel circles away.
Steel drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Harris defends it well.
Gunner Harris is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Harris loads up on a big right hand but Steel slips the punch.
Harris goes for a double leg but Steel avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Steel continues to drive forward.
Steel tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Harris throws a jab but it's blocked by Steel.

Steel showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Harris.
Harris shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Steel as he jumps to the side.
And Steel tries to counter it with a takedown but Harris pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Steel throws a head kick that misses.
Steel cracks Harris with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Gunner Harris has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Gunner Harris seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A big left from Harris misses.
Harris walks into a jab.
Steel displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Harris lands a jab to the nose.


It looks like Freddy Steel has been cut.
Harris shoots in but no luck this time.
Harris throws a series of punches but Steel avoids them all with ease.

And that's the end of the fight!
Freddy Steel comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Steel has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
