Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Tyler Barrol! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Martin Luther King Jr! The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Winston Alpacca and Peter Branson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! King Jr shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Barrol connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. King Jr fails with the takedown and Barrol counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. King Jr misses with a takedown and Barrol counters with a straight right hand. Tyler Barrol has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Martin Luther King Jr. King Jr throws a poor cross that misses
and Barrol counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. King Jr misses with an uppercut
letting Barrol counter with a right hand. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. King Jr has his takedown stuffed and Barrol counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. King Jr throws a combination that misses and Barrol cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
That's one minute gone in the round. King Jr misses with a takedown attempt and Barrol counters with a straight right hand. King Jr gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Barrol connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. King Jr misses with a takedown attempt and Barrol counters with a stiff right hand. Barrol gets caught flat footed, as King Jr shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. King Jr slips nicely into half guard. King Jr looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. King Jr slows the pace down in half guard. King Jr trying to control from half guard but Barrol is working away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. King Jr has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Barrol defend it? King Jr steps over the head and cranks it - Barrol is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for King Jr!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Martin Luther King Jr! Our winner, Martin Luther King Jr, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans. In defeat, Tyler Barrol stepped up to the mic, saying 'I am cocky in prediction. I am confident in preparation, but I am always humble in victory or defeat. I took a chance and it didn't work.
