PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Lee Fernandez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maxfield Blakowitz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maxfield Blakowitz is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lee Fernandez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Maxfield Blakowitz!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Blakowitz.
Fernandez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Fernandez misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Fernandez fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Despite the aggression on Blakowitz's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lee Fernandez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fernandez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Fernandez tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Blakowitz defends well and Fernandez ends up having to push Blakowitz into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Fernandez takes a shot right to the bread basket.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fernandez shoots in looking for a takedown but Blakowitz manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Fernandez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Blakowitz fails with an attempt to clinch.
Blakowitz fails to land the takedown.
Fernandez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Blakowitz avoids it really well and circles away.
Blakowitz has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Fernandez is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Fernandez looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Blakowitz is fending him off so far but Fernandez persists. Nope, Blakowitz circles away and we're back to standing.
Blakowitz is trying hard to land a takedown here. Fernandez sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Fernandez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Blakowitz tries to avoid it but Fernandez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Blakowitz to the ground. Blakowitz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Fernandez is breathing heavily.
No luck for Fernandez with that takedown attempt.
Fernandez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Blakowitz as he avoids it easily.
Fernandez stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Fernandez wants it to stay on the feet.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Blakowitz.
Fernandez shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Blakowitz as he jumps to the side.
Blakowitz wants to counter the offense by Fernandez and move into the clinch position.
Fernandez will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Fernandez is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Blakowitz.

Blakowitz closes the distance and clinches.

Blakowitz has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Fernandez uses from the top position.

Fernandez thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Fernandez is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Blakowitz wants to stand but Fernandez is controlling the position.

Fernandez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Blakowitz has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Fernandez has managed to get both his arms back between Blakowitz's legs - danger averted.

Fernandez drops back looking for a leg! Blakowitz is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Blakowitz manages to kick Fernandez off! Fernandez jumps back into Blakowitz's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Fernandez is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Blakowitz is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Blakowitz has escaped and now he's on top!


Fernandez has his feet on Blakowitz's thighs here. He's pushed Blakowitz off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Blakowitz screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!

Our winner, Lee Fernandez, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
